Default Remove EGT Probe from Iron Manifold when Hot/Cold?

I need to replace my autometer EGT probe. It is screwed in to a tapped hole in my cast-iron exhaust manifold. Would I be better off doing this removal when the manifold was hot or cold or does it matter at all?

the probe???

cold is fine

the probe should be installed in a bung that is installed in the manifold

the probe shouldn't be installed directly into the manifold

if the manifold is WARM (not sizzling your skin hot) it will make it a little easier to remove, just don't reinstall warm. But as scotty mentioned, the manifold shouldn't make any difference. It should be installed in a brass bung, with a compression locknut holding the actual probe in.

Thanks for the help - it came out quite easily. The probe is installed in a bung that came with the probe. This bung was screwed into a hole threaded by a machinist. I am always scared to unscrew the bung with the probe...

if it was installed properly, there is little chance of the bung coming out
