Default WRX exhaust on the OBS

So I had the WRX exhaust installed on the OBS yesterday. It was not as easy as others had posted. The flange on the my98 will not bolt to directly to the wrx flange. But after some fancy welding, you can get the muffler on So after 2 hours of welding, bending, and swearing we started her up and out came a gloriuos sound. It sounds so good. I totally sugest this cheap mod to any pre-02 owner. It cost me $140 total, and just plain rocks. I will have pictures tommorrow of how sweet the twin pipes look. As for an increase in power? I know that it isnt much, but the sweet sound sure makes it feel like at least 20hp. I liked the sound so much that I drove around yesterday, in the snow storm, with the windows down!!! Call me crazy...

Cool. Let me know where you had the work done. I might have some exhaust work I need someone to do.

Thumbs up

Looks good.

I'd do that if any one has a WRX muffler or exhaust they'd like to sell for less than 100. Other garage sale exhausts considered also.
I have welder so perfect bolt ons aren't necessary.

Hey that looks exactly like my old exhaust....wait, it is my old exhaust!
Glad to see that you were able to pull it off. It looks good, and I bet it sounds even better.

Chris N, you can totally find an exhaust for less then $100. To install it, you need to sacrifice you old muffler though. you cut the flange off the olf muffler, about 8 inches from flange, the cut the wrx flange off about 2-3 inches from the flange. then slide the old pipe into the new pipe, and weld them up. you could use a clamp it seal them, but welding is sooo much better. You then need to cut of the hanger, and reweld it on the other side. it took them 2 hours to do, but they had to send out for a new gasket too. It sounds great on the 2.2L, if you have a 1.8, it should sound just as bad A$$. good luck!

I'm ready and willing. Just wondering who around here has anything used laying around that I could use.
Welding it up is alot better and out lasts those clamps ten times.

Is it alot louder? I want loud but wife wants not-so-loud. So middle of the road is what I'm shooting for. Loud is ok(for my sake)

It is deeper at idle, soooo nice of a sound, get quieter as you approach 2500rpm, the get throaty at 27-2800, then quiets again till 4000 or so. My wife said it sounded good and she HATES loud exhausts. She said it sounded "healthier" I put in new plugs and a new air filter in the last week, so she (the car not the wife) is breathing better. We also have a wagon (as you can see) so it is louder then in a sedan. I had people tell me to call exeter to see if they had any take offs. I got lucky and found one, but exeter might have one kicking around. the only thing that you will notice that is totally different is the whistling or humming sound that you get when you shut it off. Its a cool sound, just a bit weird. sounds like one of those space age cars that you see inthe movies.
