Default Girl killed while watching boyfriend change tire on side of road

Quote:
HOUSTON – An 18-year-old girl was killed Sunday as she watched her boyfriend change a tire on the side of the road, police said.According to police, the young couple’s vehicle broke down on Highway 105 at Sapp Road.

Police say Meghann Marie Smith was watching for cars when an SUV came over the hill and struck her. Her boyfriend, Lance Barton, was able to jump out of the way.

Investigators say a drunk driver hit Smith.

The female driver, Catherine Roberts, stopped to ask what had happened. Police say she fled the scene when the victim’s boyfriend told her that she had killed his girlfriend.

Conroe police were able to stop her several miles from the scene and arrested her.

Roberts has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.

I guess she should have helped

I don't understand why people feel compelled to change their tires on busy highways or roads. Put your hazards on, get in the right lane, slow way the hell down, and pull off somewhere quiet to change it.

the article makes it sound like he very matter of factly stated his gf was dead. I would've yelled at her after she got out of the car.

Damn...

You shouldn't be watching for cars that freaking close to the lanes though. Her boyfriend should've told her that.

Sucks.

Man, I'd be all over the tasteless jokes but the poor girl died because of a drunk driver. The wrong person died here.

Sometimes classless jokes are inappropriate.

I think this just might be one of those times.

People wonder why I'm so completely intolerant of drunk driving, and, well, this is why. Eye for an eye, she should be used as a crash test dummy.

OT is funny man. Most of the times we're crass a-holes but it's always interesting to see the times when we just know "not cool, man."

My gf's friend had something similar happen to her. It was her 21st bday and her and her bf were putting her gifts into her trunk (parallel parked cars on the side of the street). A car running from the cops rear ended the car parked behind theirs which crushed their legs. They both lost both of their legs...happy 21st

+700Billion

Stories like this are EXACTLY why I have no compassion for drunk drivers, in any respect. Some guy at work was complaining about having to go through the hassles of work release and such for a DUI. My response was best captured in the movie Liar Liar... *Stop breaking the law *******!!*

No crap! If someone hit my gf right infront of me and was clearly drunk that lady would be half dead by the time the cops eventually showed up. There is no excuse for that and even though i am a calm person I doubt I could control myself in that situation.

You know Steph's (techickwrx) sister was put in a wheelchair for something like 9 months because of a drunk, right? It can and does happen to people around you.
