I stumbled onto this on youtube. It's the first I have seen. Hope it's not a repost.

Definitely underrated, especially in the torque department. And I'm also giving the 09's some serious consideration for my next scoob.

229whp, 272tq, right?
based on the average i see for stock STi's on various dynos, that would be saying that with the same discplacement, it makes more torque than the STi, which has higher compression, AVCS, and some other improvements?
Hmmm. thinking this dyno reads a bit high. No doubt the 09 WRX is a nice car, but break it down, and its just a 2.5L WRX with a better flowing exhaust and some more boost. Nothing you can't accomplish with a 06-08 and some mods. Plus, since its making more power on the same engine from the factory, it just means there's less to be gained from mods and tuning.

Good improvement for people who buy n drive them stock. Not something i'd rush out to buy. Heck, look at the newer STi's than mine? 07's? 08's? all have factory fueling issues i believe... oh so fun.

just wanted to add that the 09 wrx come with a bigger turbo, same as the sti i believe. so mod for mod, the 09 wrx will make more power than the 06-08.

Exactly, who here really believes the AWD "only" loses 13% through the drivetrain/wheels? I am, however, eager to get to tuning one with the AVCS on the exhaust cams now. Should be interesting.

Actually the 09 WRX comes with a vf52,
not the same turbo as the STi

This was at a local MNSubaru dyno day. Here's the graph. The car is stock, and from all reports, they were fighting heatsoak on the dyno all day. And yeah, it's a dynojet.

I remember reading that the 08 WRX is under rated as well. Is this a new trend from Subaru to keep the STi sales alive??

IMO I believe they have been fairly underrated since 06 when they went to the 2.5. Subaru has been using the same 0-60 times since the wrx has hit US soil. And yes, I feel that they would like to try and maintain a performance gap between the wrx and sti, at least in straight line speed, as a means of preserving sti sales.

Those numbers are very strong! Does anyone have an idea of what a stock STI makes on that dyno?

The WRX has a higher compression ratio, and thus is able to make more power mod for mod against an STi. At least I know this was true for '06-'07.

The WRXs are also cammed for smaller turbos so they tend to fall off more than most STI's up top. In my experience they don't make any more power mod for mod

Because of the CR, they tend to make a little more TQ, but not power.

do some reading first!

It's the same exact turbo as the vf48 from STI, with same cfm@psi specs and same parts inside.

Just in a different housing. Similar to those from LGT. That is so it can bolt up to the stupid endtank of the intercooler. Very poor design IMO. SOA can ya hear me?
