Default Anyone removed an 08-09 WRX gauge cluster?

just wondering if it would be possible to remove the bulb for the TPMS warning light. I plan to have several sets of wheels (winter, summer, track) and don't want to deal with the idiot TPMS every time I change them.

How easy/difficult is it to remove the 08-09 gauge cluster?

This isn't exactly a "cluster removal" thread, it shows you how to remove the dash and get the radio and HVAC out, but they do tell you how to get the cluster off.

If you can get it off, please post up exactly how you did so, if you don't mine. I'm planning on changing the color of mine.

if taken it out/
Pull on the cowl it will pop off
2 Phillps screws on the top take them out
Pull on the cluster to release the 2 pop pins one on each lower side
Remove wire plug
Push all clear tabs away from the white plastic
Cut a piece of electrical tape and cover the lighted section

Default how to take it off

As my 2010 speedo gauge is hard to read, the numbers are inside the dial and the needle sits on top... and the numbers did I say they are also SMALL?

Well,, I looked and behold. I found a WS manuls PM if you want it was pretty useless. I then place neon yellow pastel hash marks to WOW SLOW TFD!!

Caution on the removal of the wire harness and the imobiliser key system it was mentioned in the book. Not sure if it would mean reprograming. Call the dealer first.

Move the steering wheel down all the way and if it is telescoping all the way towards the seat. Now Take a firm grip on the very edge of the whole outside gauge cluster. visor, and at the clock positions of 11, 1, 4, 7 pulling directly towards you, that is towards the seat, with all your four hands ( april fools ) work your way around.

It should unclip, it is held in place with yellow plastic clips, that attach to the visor.

Also the glass i.e. scratches VERY easily

But then he has to reactivate those sensors every time he swaps wheels, which is a pain. I find the ideal setup is to get a second TPMS box synced to that second set and swap it in when you swap your wheels. That way you retain the benefit of TPMS without completely disabling it. Others will have their opinions; this is mine.

wow, looks like this thread got bumped lol...

anyhow, I ended up just taking off the clear cover of the gauge cluster (5 minutes) and putting a tiny square piece of electrical tape over the TPMS warning light. It is almost invisible during the daytime unless you're looking specifically at it, and at night totally invisible and blocks all the light. An easier solution than taking crap apart, and easily reversible in the winter when my stock wheels/winter tires (with TPMS) are back on the car.

you have to get them reprogrammed every time you switch wheels, even if you have 2 sets of sensors (IIRC this costs like $40 at the dealer to do, every time). And I have 3 sets of wheels (summer, winter, track), so that would be quite inconvenient

I just pulled my dash out of my 2011 wrx cause i wanted to remove the tpms, and removing it only took 2 min. Pull trim off then its just 2 screws. Getting the gauge cluster apart took a little more time. After i got it apart i found that the lights are all leds that are soldered to the computer board im sure there is a way to remove them but i dont have the knowledge of that kind of stuff so i just did the "electrical tape trick". Anyone remove the leds from the board before?

After a few years you don't even notice the light. Mines been light since 2010....and I have sensors in the wheels, but I'm to cheap to pay the dealer $45 dollars to do something that should be free.
