Default So I drove the Evo MR for the first time...

and it was meh... I'd pay no more than $18k for one.

I don't think I'll ever go back to 4cyl "sportscars"

in fact, I don't think I'll go back to sportscars until I make enough money to buy porsche 911 or something.

what's the big hype with these overpriced STi's/Evo MR's?

the pro's of them is you can slap on a set of winter wheels with snow tires and drive through just about anything

con's
with their insurance cost you could buy a winter beater for snow duty with what your premium would be for 12 months
they drink 93 octane like it's going out of style and still ping while doing it

Yeah. I hate the hype that surrounds the STi and Evo lineage. They're so... lackluster. I mean, who the hell gets all excited about dinky compact sedans with ridiculously overengineered drivetrains capable of handling just about anything nature can throw at them? Who gets into "4cyl sportscars" that only squeeze 270+ horsepower and halfway-decent mileage out of such miniscule motors? Who thinks that 3100+ pound cars that can seat 4 adults semi-comfortably, yet can walk all over much more "capable" cars on a racetrack are cool?

In case you're not seeing it, my diatribe is loaded the f*** up with sarcasm. You're either jaded, stupid, or have no idea how to drive a car if you're underwhelmed by ANY flavor of WRX/STi or Evolution.

I'm not saying I'd pay $40K for either, but I've paid $33K for an STi, and have absolutely NO regrets.

I know that I don't think of my STi as a "Sports car" it's more of a commuter car with unhealthy levels of power and grip.

<-- Drives car 365 days a year in New England weather.

I have an VIII now and will be getting a IX for my next car. I'm leaning towards the MR.

Just like what happened to the 300ZX, Supra, RX-7 and 3000GT/Stealth twins.

I see you are not familiar with the WRX transmission.

The gas mileage for the WRX and Evo is generally considered atrocious. You may be the first person to use the term halfway decent in respect to their mileage.

No disagreements with the rest of your points.
