there have been quite a few swaps, it would cost pretty much the same as swapping it into any other non sti vehicle do a search i know there are some good write ups, but its basicly just taking out what you got and putting in better stuff

I know a few people that have done this but most of them end up having trouble with their cars. I'm not sure if thats because it was put together poorly or not. I am thinking about doing this myself if I sell my 04 STi. The GC8 is the best bosy style Subaru ever came out with. Living in Europe, I have seen my share of 22B's but unfortunately I can not bring one back to the states with me when I move back.

Not much fabrication but many parts don't fit due to the RS being more narrow and shorter. My swap took a month due to lots of parts not fitting correctly.

so if i get an RS with a blown motor, and a wracked sti.
1. what else would i need for the swap?
2. what all has to be switched from the sti to the rs? engine tranny drive shaft diff etc.. ?
3. can i steal the dash gauges, and the big brambo breaks and bolt them up?

The answer to this question would be easier to determine if you put what exactly that you want to swap. If you want the interior, just engine, etc... I know that the guage cluster will be determined by the year ECU that you wind up with. They changed the connectors on a couple of the years, and some are not compatible with some ECU's.

The engine and tranny will fit, no problems really.
The rear and center diffs will fit, no problem.
The parts that I am actually researching prior to attempting a swap myself is the Axles and Driveshafts. The rear diff and tranny determine the axles, and I'm still unsure about the driveshafts.
The ECU and wiring harnesses will need to be swapped or merged depending on what type of swap that you are going to go with.

See #1, I kinda addressed that issue already for the guages.
About the BREMBOs, they will bolt up as long as you are using the correct knuckle and axles I believe.

I hope I helped a little...

Exactly. If you plan on using STI suspension, you need rear top hats from a 90-91 legacy.

The STI driveshaft bolts right up and I used stock STI axles as well as the hub/knuckle set up. If you want to use RS hubs/knuckles, you'll need to do some piecing together - something I wanted to avoid with my swap.

If you use the STI hubs/knuckles, you can use the brembos. Otherwise you'll need an adaptor-braket-type-thing for the rears (IIRC). Axles have nothing to do with it.

If you mean engine cross member you will need a turbo cross member. If its a pre MY2000 unit it will be direct bolt in. After MY01(jp) or MY02(US) you'd need to shim the control arms.

Not at all. I'm talking about the cross member donor car. It has to be a turbo cross member and if its prior to my01 it will be direct bolt in to any US my93-my01 Impreza.

Here you may want to contact http://www.licmotorsports.com go there are start reading then call them and chew their ears off. lol. Cause no matter how many questions we answer it will raise 10 more that you have. I could list all the question you will have but that doesn't mean you will understand how I explain it. Unless your a mechanic then I can answer away. But, from what I have read your not a day to day mechanic. So check these guys out. Also there are few companys like these guys that will convert your car for you. Just search around the net.
I personaly like the idea of a 01 RS STi running gear that is 2 wheel drive. And I don't mean by taking out the front drive shafts, thats the crappy way to do it.
