Default Need trans help for a SVX

Hello from a new member. I have a small delemma..My girlfriend has a 1992 subaru svx awd with 225k on it, and the auto transmission is going south. There is no way she wants to get rid of the car (cant really say I blame her), and wants to fix it. My problem is that I am having problems even finding a transmission for the car (used low mileage) instead of having it rebuilt for a hell of a lot of money. Iwas told by anther guy that there were trannys from other subaru cars that you could use. Is this true, and if so what modifications do I have to do? Also if anyone knows of a place that specializes in subaru (not too familliar with them, as I have a Mustang as a toy, but would love to get a Legacy GT as a daily) parts.....any help will be appreciated

Where are you located at?
Do you want to swap to a manual or stay with auto?
By the way Legacy Gt are great cars.

You can use any of the early Impreza or Legacy 4eats but you'll have to change the rear diff out to the matching final drive.

SVX = 3:90 front and 3:54 rear ratios

Impreza and Leagcy = 4:11 front and rear or 4:44 front and rear

You also can do a manual swap, they sell kits on ebay all the time.

I have an SVX auto trans taking up space and would like to be rid of it. We got it out of a wrecked car along with the engine. I can't make any claim of it's past, but I'd be willing to let it go for a hug.....

Essentially any 4 bolt transmission (MY90-MY98 Legacy, Impreza, Forrester) will work assuming you use the correct rear differential. The only difference is that the SVX uses a "turbo" transmission which has extra clutches.
