Default cam triggers...

wondering what ECUs will run with what heads. I know the cam sensor physically changed location between the OBD I and OBD II heads. I had always assumed that the DOHC cam sensor would be calibrated differently than an SOHC one, but I find out today that a buddy is running is '96 EJ22e on a '98 EJ25d ECU....only getting a CEL for the fuel temp sensor.

I know of a guy who put a 2.2 in his impreza in place of the 1.8, re-using the 1.8 ECU, harness, intake mani and sensors, and this worked well....

so, what combos have people used? what works?

People have use every combo imaginable. I put a phase 2 - 2.5 in my phase 1 - 1.8 impreza a few years ago and had no codes for 2 years, using the 1.8 computer. Its not what ecu will run what head, they all seem to work the same, it thing like injectors, idle air valves and ignitions coils that need to be with the right wiring harness / ecu.

The difference isn't OBD-I versus OBD-II. It's phase I versus phase II. Try running a USDM WRX head on an Ej18 ECU. It won't work. Though you can run an EJ20G head on an Ej18 ECU.
