Default New WRX Gauge Pod, Check It!

New guage pod we have designed for the center console of the Subaru WRX. This pod will will completely replace that section as the Defi pod would. The pod is made from extremely strong fiberglass and will come texture and color matched to the dash. The kicker, it will be available for both 60mm and 52mm gauges. The gauges are angled towards the driver for easy vision. The picture you see is a preliminary product with no holes cut but for a example to see.

We we would like feedback and to start taking orders immediately to gauge production.

Again:
Color matched
center console gauge pod
fits 3 60mm gauges or 3 52mm gauges.

Price for the pod will be a introductory $100 shipped.

Looks like the dash is metamorphosizing, kinda neat.

Since your using fiberglass, how will the housing attach to the dashboard? Screws?
The OEM unit uses an aluminum bottom retainer and the plastic housing utilizes metal press-in tabs like the back of the silver radio/climate control dials trim.

Better make sure the prototype mold is perfect. The only way to fill in gaps if the housing doesn't fit correct for a customer will be to add more material to the finished unit. This could cause some headaches, as fiberglass will not bend...only crack.

Good Luck

The final product will have no fitment issues unlike the picture, that is a preliminary picture. The attahment to the dash will be worked exactly the same as the stock one with clips.

That currently looks like it would hold like 80mm gauges. If it were about half as tall as that I would take one. I'm looking for something to hold 52mm gauges.

Hmm, I think the Defi looks too big. In fact, I think it looks like this:

Personally, I'd also prefer a more integrated looking design, like a shrunken Defi for 52mm gauges?

I agree with those who say it needs to be smaller, but I like the concept. I am looking for one to hold 60mm, but a little smaller than that.

Whoa, sorry guys. Thats not good looking AT ALL. That should have been given the ax at the preliminary sketch phase. Thats so ugly that its own momma wont kiss it goodnight. Thats so ugly it makes children cry.

Vivid, I care for your future. Dont put this into production. Its really really bad. Sorry guys. Better you know now than later after you make a mold or whatever.

Sorry Dan...IMO the Defi pod is ugly but this one is even uglier.

What I'd love to see is a larger(slightly taller) version of the factory gauge pod that'll take a 1-DIN plate(with no mods). Color & texture matching the factory dash would be real nice too.

I'd think the flexibility to mount 52mm gauges, turbo timer, A/F ratio, EBC, or whatever you like under one pod(just change/modify the plate) would make this a better proposition for both vendor & customer.

Brent.

wow... tough crowd

I wonder if any of them have made production designs of ANYTHING? Doubtful.

Vivid, your ideas are heading in the right direction. I would still try to go for a quality A pillar replacement, but the dash piece seems popular too.

My idea would be to countersink the gauge pods a little so they don't stick up quite so high. IIRC the area underneath that piece is partially hollow.

JimmyOOOO,
What exactly does making production designs have to do with the fact that the most people who have seen this gauge think its ugly? Are you saying that we have to be experienced designers in order to submit an opinion on how something looks? If so then I guess most of us on this board should not submit an opinion on body kits, color schemes, interiors, wheels, etc.

Actually dead eye, I was saying two things...

1. Initial prototype designs often change significantly by the time they get to final production.

2. There are a lot more constructive ways to voice your opinion.

You can unbunch your panties now

coati - Touche`!

That's the best laugh Iv'e had in a while... Thank you!

As to design. Very functional, pretty clever, like the fact it works with different gauge sizes. I like that it will be color/finish matching.

vivid, I think you'll need to pop some gauges in that thing so you don't focus on the housing so much. Also people look at how flush it sits in the dash - fit and finish... I know it is a "model" but if you want to present something to generate interest if it does not look like it fits perfect now, that creates a concern about the final product.
