Default Tire and fitment question

I'm looking to put an aggresive wheel/tire combo on (I know, I'm ready to get flamed), but just need a quick question answered. Will a 245/40 tire have a better chance of fitting than a 255/35. I'm thinking the 245/40 will be too tall, but I have a wagon and going wider might make the fitment harder. Advice?

If you search the threads for wheel and tire set-ups on wagons you will find a very extensive and somewhat exhausting, yet not definitive, collection of posts on this. I went through quite a bit to come to my decision on size for my purposes. You don't have the year, or your intended purpose listed in your post. Without some information about these things, anything that anyone says is just about useless. I am putting 245-40-17's on my wagon and it is no small feat, nor is it an inexpensive affair, unless you don't care about performance. You should search for the info. When you pose this question to the general community you should include at the least; rim size, suspension settings, what you intend to use the car for, what you mostly use the car for, and stuff that matters ie; looks or handling. Good luck, and if you get 255's to fit on it and it still drives, post some pictures.

Oh snap. It's for an '05 wagon, weekend driver only. The car NEVER sees an auto-X track or dragstrip. Honestly the fitment is purely for looks. The wheels size is for a 18x9.5".
