Default New Hyundai 2.0 and 2.0-Liter Turbo Diesels with up to 200HP

Quote:
Hyundai has released details on its newest diesel powerplant, the "R-Engine" that was first previewed in prototype form on the 2008 Geneva Show HED-5 i-MODE concept. The all-aluminum R-Engine benefits from a third generation common rail system with piezo-electric injectors to deliver fuel at 1800-bar while it also features an electronic variable geometry turbocharger and an advanced engine control unit.

The new powerplant will be available in two sizes, 2.0 and 2.2-litres with outputs of 184HP / 392Nm and 200HP /436Nm respectively. Hyundai said that the R-Engine will enter production in 2009 and will see its first application in new SUV vehicles and large saloons.

"R proves Hyundai's diesel development capabilities really are world-class. With diesels becoming cleaner and more fuel efficient all the time, there's a growing demand for diesel powerplants worldwide and Hyundai is well positioned to supply the market with the very best diesel technology," said Dr Hyun-Soon Lee, president of Hyundai's Corporate Research and Development Division.

Guessing Subaru will need to perfect their diesel block some and add some of the newer tech stuff to get it to pass the CA emissions standards. So fingers crossed Subaru keeps pursuing the US market with the diesel idea and doesn't chicken out like all the other auto builders to date. VW and MB excluded given even when they couldn't sell in all 50 states they still sold diesel in the US.

I think the top sellers in rough times are those that stand out - having class leading milege and performance in an established brand known for durability would be a huge bragging rights for Subaru. When was the last time Subaru flew the top milege flag? It's been a very - very long time.

That 2.2 diesel has amazing specs.. I wish Hyundai would be a car similar to Golf 6 with that 2.2 diesel.. Would be amazing little fun car.. especially with rwd/awd.

Stick the 2.2 engine in the Genisis Coupe and you would have a car like no other in the US. Sporty diesel with RWD FTW!

3600+lb is not really sporty these days..
BMW 123d is more like it..
But the idea is great..40+mpg Hyundai GT with 10 year warranty...

Where are you getting 3600lb from?

It's more like 3300 and 3402 lbs for I4 base and V6 base according to the latest press release.

Yeah. For roughly 3,300 lb for a diesel version of the coupe, you are looking sqaurely at BMW 123D territory.

And by the way I would love for the 123D to come here, but it would be horrendously expensive and probably be down on performance. I'll take hyundai and a ten year warranty
