Default Full Boost in 1st and 2nd gears on stock WRX

Hey guys, this is more of a curiosity question. I've noticed that when I punch my car hard right off of the line in 1st gear, I get a reading of between .09-.1 mPa on my OEM boost gauge. I also get the same readings on 2nd, 3rd, etc.

I've done several searches, but haven't come up with anything really conclusive. Basically what I'm asking is, is this normal? I remember reading several posts a while back that most people don't get full boost in 1st and 2nd until they started playing around with the boost (MBC, EBC,etc). I have none of those on my stock WRX, yet get full boost in all sorts of weather conditions.

Is my car a factory freak or is this normal?

Also, the thing is that people who have driven my car say that it's actually feels a lot faster than other stock WRX's they've driven. I haven't driven anyone else's stock WRX, so I really have no comparison with which to draw on.

I got a few comments like that while in houston as well.

Theres a huge range in power in stock wrx's, ive seen numbers as low as 167whp and as high as 191-192whp !

you should get yours dyno'd

You should take your car to the track to see what it runs. Also, I used to get full boost in 1st gear in my WRX when it was stock so I didn't understand what everyone was saying about low boost in 1st gear. I also have the factory boost gauage and got .9 mpa on average stock. Most of the talk about low boost in 1st gear with modded WRX's is because of the Unichip. My unichip really pulls boost in 1st gear. I don't get anywhere near 16.5 psi . Thats why I run a MBC with my Unichip so I can get 16.5 psi in 1st.

My stock 5 speed wagon usually sees only a brief boost peak in first gear of .07-.08. This is with an easy start (1200 rpm) and then WOT until redline. My guess is that people who are launching harder might see higher boost levels because they are loading the engine to a greater degree than almost a slow rolling start.

How are you launching your car?

SnortWagon,

I launch my car almost exactly like you do and I get the same results. Seems it doesn't matter how I launch it, as long as I go WOT.

If you bog the car at launch and go WOT it will go up to 1. Ive done that on mine.. but normally a good launch I get .85 - .95
