My current summer tires corded. I've been using the original 205/55R16 size in a Falken FK-452 on the stock 16x6.5" wheels. A friend of mine is offering me his 225/50R16 Hankook Ventus RS-2's for a deal. My concern is that the 225 is really too wide for that wheel. How much crispness, precision, and turn in sharpness would I lose by going with the over-wide tires compared to my 452s now?
Any other thoughts?

I have a set of 225/50r16 starspecs on my stock 04 wrx wheels now. They have been great but are a bit bouncy. Turn in and crispness is still great but I also have a nice suspension setup. Overall I have been very pleased with the way they have performed.

You'll lose some steering response. Pretty difficult to quantify "how much."

Don't you also have a set of 17's? I honestly can't stand it when I switch to my 16x7 195/55/16 gForce sports (can't wait till these tires are dead) but I seem to get a bump of 1-2mpg over my 17's sti bbs with 225's. Crappy braking, lower corner grip, mushy feel, and hardly any better comfort. Noisy cuz of the tires. Anyways, back on subject... waiting to hear about other people's experiences. |

I like the wheels and don't regret the purchase at all, Fendy. I just wish you had some all season or M+S tires on it instead because I want these to be my "winter/tahoe/rallyx" wheels which goes against the summer tires that are currently on there.180 handbrake turns are fun though. |

Last time I shipped a wheel it ended up $30+ PER WHEEL!!
If you can arrange cheaper shipping, then it's probably worth it. 3 are almost in brand new condition, 1 has some bad rash but in great shape (this was a parallel'd too close incident, not a collision) |

It was supposed to be a joke an "Well if you're giving them away, the least I can do is ship them out here" sort of thing.
There's no way I could afford to buy wheels at the OMG$$$ per wheel that 13.7lb wheels would cost. |

PM me if you are interested. To OP: Lots of people have 225/50R16 on their stock 16x6.5" wheels... some love them & some hate them. If the RS-2s are still fresh & great deal, I'd say go for it since you need tires anyway. If you don't like them, just sell them again. ![]() |
