Default Marcus Grönholm to join Subau???

Quote:
Marcus Gronholm tested a Subaru S14 WRC in secret with Andreas Mikkelsen the other week in the UK

Marcus Gronholm tested the Subaru Impreza S14 WRC for the first time at a secret test in Wales the other week, according to Autosport magazine. Norwegian Andreas Mikkelsen drove the car on the same day.

Gronholm didn't comment on the test but did say that he would not have retired at the end of 2007 if the WRC had been reduced to 12 rallies this year.

Subaru managing director Richard Taylor declined to comment on Gronholm's test to Autosport, but said he was pleased with Mikkelsen:

He seemed to enjoy himself. Now we need to see what can be found for the future. We have said we would like this sorting out very quickly after Rally Japan - there's a third seat in the works team if the deal is right."

Meanwhile, Gronholm spoke to WRR during Rally Japan about rumours linking him with a full-time return to the 2009. He said he would not be coming back for a full season next year and wanted to clear up any speculation that he was considering a full-time return.

http://rallybuzz.stagetimes.com/gron...n-subaru-test/
That would be a great comeback for the 2-times world champion, and the only one to challenge Loeb in the last years..

If Gronholm comes to Subaru, I can see Petter taking his last year of the contract elsewhere. He's not a happy person with Subaru.

The Subaru WRC car still needs to be thinner/smaller...

Seems like he's having a good time in ERC this year with the Fiesta.

That in my opinion would be a great move on the part of subaru. This is more of a threat for Chris than Petter and he him moving more than petter.

Marcus is a very critical driver and will provide tons of feedback to aid in development of the 'spacebus'.

Gronholm's proven skills as a development driver wouldn't hurt Subaru one iota.

Plus, he would be a good incentive (aka kick in the tushie) for Petter and Chris...can't be having the 'new guy' makin em look bad, eh?

if marcus came in petter would probably leave. with chris beating petter in the overall standings i can't see them ditching chris for petter.

petter's contract is up next year too...

If Gronholm becomes test driver, what happens to Markko?

Or gronholm could be part of the second team they're running next season, and not bump anyone out.

@pete: who's to say they can't have more than one person testing?

YES PLEASE GRONHOLM JOIN SUBARU!!!

Gronholm would bring Subaru
+ skill
+ experience
+ ENTERTAINMENT VALUE

Reporter: "Marcus, you've just completed the stage and you are just 2 seconds behind Sebastin and 10 seconds ahead of your teammates... how are you liking the new manufacturer?"

Marcus: "Yes, weeehhll... it's a bit slippy and the carr is like this all the time... but it's good. The last time I was in WRC, I was in a blue car and I am again in a blue car so it's hookay."

Petter / SWRT gets the car they need via that new RWD platform they are developing with Toyota.

Still 2 years away from WRC though.

Well, it would give the team principal(s) a very good gauge of how his current driver line up is actually doing. If Marcus comes into the team and consistantly finishes stage after stage faster than Petter / Chris then they have the answer they need. Marcus is in a unique position at this time.

Chim and KC I love those quotes lol.

The great thing that many people love and hate about marcus because he is such a good and very technical driver he can be VERY FRANK.

"Hookay hookay im happy the car made it this far. It is garbage but we can make it faster I cannot work under these contition' but they pay me so I drive as fast as I can."

and then there is the OTHER marcus who comes in off a stage all sweaty w/spiky hair and some talking head sticks a microphone in his window...:

"...gaaah, is all gone to bad. I cannot drive this piece of "BLeep" and nothing is right. All I need is power steering and maybe then we can be racing...how can they not fix this? I haff no more to say."

maybe Subaru should be careful what they wish for.

I see it more of a feeling out process. I don't see Gronholm as eager to return to WRC in a subaru considering the level of car which he left Ford. i expect they will use him to coach Petter and Atko. If Hollywood gets upset and splits, only then would i see subaru make an offer to Gronholm, but i would expect it to be on the lowside since I expect a cut in the SWRT budget for the next few years for WRC.

Correction:
'Pump steering' not power steering lol. The language difference is just amazing that is something you just can get in nascar.

Its funny that you say that because i think the best chassis that would meet the posture of Petters driving style would be FORD.

Suzuki is not Hollywood enough.
Citron would be just too easy.
Skoda maybe but its not a world market car.

BTW... I've always thought that Petter's nickname "Hollywood" is such a misinformed Euro-misnomer.

Anyone who knows socal and the real Hollywood knows that Petter's flamboyant personality only has a vague resemblance to the culture of Hollywood; and AT BEST can be compared only with the 10 second video bites on TV.

It's about as misinformed a name as Ultima game creator Lord British.

IIS NO POWAR STEERING!!

Good move on Subaru's part to score some more points, but either Chris or Petter are going to get kicked out. Running a 3 car team will be too costly. If Gronholm does become a driver once again, it would be interesting to see if his times are competitive.
