Default (MD) MoCo: Anyone want to help with roof vane install? (maybe host install day??)

OFFICIAL INSTALL DAY THREAD!!! ->
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1636303
^^^

Hello fellow Nasiocers, so I just bought a CF roof vane from the Nasioc classifieds for my 07TR. I have searched and searched for templates and more info on installing this sucker but no luck...

I have been thinking about hosting an install day at my home in MoCo, since i saw the one in VA and someone calling for a MD one, but still need to think that one over a little more past impulse but don't see why not other than gotta run it over with fam. (i'm young and in mom's house but she's chill and loves and understands the subaru brotherhood ) encourage me further anyone??

but for now....
I am calling for someone who wishes to help me install my roof vane (to poor to have it done professionally and thats no fun..)
(experience is required!!! if you haven't done it before, sorry but no thanks)
Pizza and beer provided.

As i have been stalking around looking for info on the install i have become a bit nervous about what i just bought from ZenkiJunkie. when i got it i open the box it immediately it says its from an ebay store....
also it only has one screw that is to hold it down... i know the actual sti vane has two... dono about this one either... but anyway input would be good

thanks guys
-Ben

The roof vane is pretty simple.

Just use the black 3M foam body tape, install ALL OVER the bottom of the roof vane, clean the glass with isoproyl alocohol, then peel off all the foam tape in the center, and leave "tabs" of the outer tape sticking out (So once the center is all stuck down, you can "expose" the other sticky side then press it down for a good fit).

Hold it down with something heavy and support it in place. It would really help if the roof vane laid flat with the area you want to install it in... Since you don't want to really force it otherwise the pressure of it trying to bend back into it's original shape might pop it off the car.

....CN: I'm game for an install day!

It's so easy once you get the lines all drawn out. We can attack this the very same way I did mine just get someone with a 06/07 STi to remove theres and measure, measure, measure and do it again. I volunteer my car as the guinea pig so no need to find an STi.

My only concern is the actual fitment due to it is not oem could you post up some pics of your vane? Mine is an OEM piece so it went on the same way as stock yours might need a little different approach.

...Ignore my advise. I got the roof vane and vortex generator confused.

But! Count me in anyway.

Depending on when you're looking to do this, I'd be down to help. NickGuyy 07 and I could be the "benchmark" cars with the roof vane.

Imprezd 1: From what Nick says it doesn't seem too difficult to install the roof vane so i don't see why not two Nick, you got objections???

INSTALL DAY IS OFFICIAL!!!!!

So i guess im just gonna copy alittle off the other install day i saw in MAIC

Sunday 11/23/08 11am-4pm ish???

Im located in Silver Spring, MD by Blake high school (pm me for exact address )

when you're coming to my neighborhood be easy on the gas (some people in my neighborhood are scooby-nazis with children and love calling cops on cars)

PM ME WITH Your name, who your bringing, what tools you are bringing and what you are trying to get done (try and keep them to simple things i.e. no clutch install/tranny LOL just simple things that we can get done in a few hours)

I'll start it with Me

WHOS COMING:
Ben(me)-got pretty much no tools (some sockets/wrenches but of course im missing some crucial sizes. there is a napa and autozone and Homedepot a few mins away from me as well) (i have some electrical connectors and a drill that kinda sucks but no drill bits) I want to do Roof vane install with Nicks aid and a sticker install lol

PM me guys with the info and get my address!!! also if anyone wants to try and bring beer or grub that would be nice . im gonna get some but you know, im poor
also if you have dogs that like to romp and are 100% friendly (and have all shots and such) with all other dogs they are welcome as well. make sure to let me know first (i have a fenced in yard and a puppy or three for them to play with )

Sweet, im boosted for this!!!
-Ben

LOL that was funny about the drill bits. For these guys I think it will be best to only drill a small hole then a self tapping screw to secure the thing. Mine is done the same way and I can do pull ups on the thing if I wanted to.

Another thing we could do is make a write up for the whole process and have a printable template for all the NASIOC'ers who want one of these. I auto volunteer Imprezed 1's car since he will be doing an OEM roof vane. It would be great LE for you to come up since you were there for the first install.

I hope this goes well

I agree on the template idea, so many people are always asking where to find and get templates for the roof vane

I'm down w/ this install day on the 23rd!
U know what size of the self tapping screws which GL will need, Nick?
I'll bring some masking tapes w/ my Drumil set just in case. Oh, don't
forget the double side adhesive tapes for the roof vane! Someone
please have or bring a drill and some good strong drill bits!
PM U GL for your Address!
