Question Help! What is that squeek!

Has anyone had a squeek coming from underside their car while they were rolling or under slight power (under 10 mph)?

Thanks,
Sean

I had a really annoying squeek comming from under my shifter and I took it to the dealer to have it looked at. It took them like 2 hours to find and 2 seconds to fix,
There was a peice of metal, like and exhaust hander that was not bent all the way back and was rubbing the frame, nothing major they just bent it back with some vice grips

Hmmm....This sounds like a rotational squeak. I hope it isn't that dreaded rear wheel bearing/differential problem! It has never made any sounds before.

Sean, my car has an occasional squeak at low speed that i'm 99% sure is just the brake pads. If you pads are worn, they will definately squeak to let you know, but sometimes they are noisy anyway. Easier to check that a wheel bearing, too.

My car occasionally does the left-front-wheel squeak. It is very annoying and can get very loud. At first I thought it was a a rock caught between the stone-shield and rotor but after taking the wheel off, the caliper off, and rotor off, and the stone shield off... nada.

Squeak came back, the very next day.

It is a rotational scuffing squeak sound, almost like the semi-metallic brake pads are hitting the rotor and squeaking part-way around the revolution. But I had this noise *before* I put on the Axxis pads.

Subaru dealer won't even acknowledge it and I quite frankly don't have the money to take it back so they can lie to me some more.

So I just turn up the damn radio.

That sounds like what mine is doing, Marc. But unfortunately, I don't have my brakes on when it does it. I'm going to pull the rear drums off tomorrow to see if they are worn. Maybe they are all the way out and are not letting go of the drums when I let off the brake. I hope...I hope, I hope.

Hey, JayE, are you going to the meet at Old Man's Cave on Sat.? I won't be there if I can't this problem fixed.

Yeah, JayE, you should come to Hocking with us.

Sean, now that you mention it I do have a sound sort of like that. I always associate it with the brakes, just a whining sound, but it's intermitent...

Silas....trying to fool us by changing your name? ha ha....Must be running from the cops.

Mine is a definite squeal.....It is like the normal metallic brake pad squeal that you normally hear when you apply the brakes but now it is doing it without the brakes being applied.

This is a perfect description of what my car is doing.

It is going to have its 30k checkup pretty soon so I will get that addressed.

The CV joints aren't clicking when I am making hard turns, so I don't think it is them. I'll do a visual inspection though.

I'm sure Jay will proably tell you, but he can't make it to the meet. Well last time i talked to him he couldn't. His parents are in town for the weekend so he'll have to make the next one i suppose.

Hey Jay, i'll see you at work sometime. Go UPS!!

Hey Sean, when you are driving in a straight line while it is squeaking and you slightly turn the wheel one way or the other, does the squeak go away? WHen my brakes were squeaking when i was driving straight, a slight movement of the steering wheel would make it go away. And once i had my brakes cleaned and adjusted it went away and hasn't come back since. And it would just do it all of the time even when i wasn't using the brakes.

Rob

Yeah, this is my at work identity. I figured I'd go with one of my modern day heros! Only problem is I'm now spending too much time on the I-club at work and at home...

That is exactly what it is doing, but only at low speed. And it ocilates...it goes squeak, squeak, squeak as the wheels turn. It isn't a long continuous squeal.

Thanks,
Sean
