I'm pretty sure that's the location assist (the horn honks to help you find it).

I thought it was if you do it X number of times not at a certain speed though

I was just talking to a customer the other day about this

We called it the "Hey dummy, you already locked your car, but if you want another confirmation, I'll beep the horn so you can hear it this time"

No offense....we were making fun of it

However, that is basically what it is

I've got a question that's related tot he security horn - so rather than posting a new thread I"ll ask here first.

I have an 02 OBS and from what I can tell from the Service Manual I have, the security system uses a separate horn located on passenger-side firewall. Can that be swapped out for something not so loud?

I have an 02 bugeye WRX with Hella horns so I've disabled the honk/chirps. Is there any way to get the beeps like the 06+ Imprezas have instead of the horn chirps? My wife just bought an 03 Forester and it also beeps and I'd love to have that as well.

Is there a programming procedure for pre 01 cars? I am getting a remote for my 2000 rs and can't find how to program it.

Do the keys for an 2006 impreza have the chip inside them? I just got an outback sport and it only came with one key, was wondering if I can pick one up easily or have to have the dealer to program it.

You can buy it and program it yourself. I did it with the 2 remotes I have.

I'm not sure what chip you're talking about.

Each remotes emits a signal and you program the car so that signal is acceptable. So technically, you can program all the cars on the lot to unlock with 1 fob lol

He's talking about the actual key, not the remote. The newer style keys have an immobilizer chip in them that have to be programmed to the vehicle, usually by a Subaru computer.

You can have a key cut anywhere. Yours does not have an immobilizer chip in it. Only the turbo models that year had a chip.

You can tell because your key is pretty flat and has a smaller head than newer keys.

Your key should look like this (non-immobilizer)

NOT this: (immobilizer key)

Located on the left side of the steering wheel, near the bottom of the dash trim is a little button(programming button) that should be sticking out of the dash trim. (it may have fallen in behind the dash)

1. Open the driver’s door.

2. Turn the vehicle ignition to the “ON” position.

3. Press and hold the Programming button in.
After approximately 15 seconds, the door locks will cycle 3 times
This indicates that the system is in the Transmitter Programming
Mode. Do not release the Programming button.

4. Press the “LOCK” button on the new transmitter. The door locks will
cycle once.

5. Repeat step 4 for any additional transmitters.

6. Exit the Transmitter Program Mode by releasing the Programming
button and turning the vehicle ignition off. Test all remote transmitters
to ensure that they work properly.

On your vehicle the trunk button only unlocks the tailgate. It does not pop open. That button for your car allows you to unlock the tailgate only while the other doors stay locked. On sedan models, the trunk will 'pop' open.

I thought you were being funny because on most models with a tailgate, and not a trunk, that button doesn't exist.

Ok, question for some of the old Skool owners out there.
I have been trying to get the factory remote to work on my car to no avail.
2000 2.5rs
Factory keyless/alarm system. Brand new aftermarket remote.
I go through the programming sequence --- Key on, hold programming button under dash for 15 seconds, locks cycle 3 times, press lock button on remote while still pressing programming button, locks cycle 1 time, release button, turn off key. Test remote and I get no response from the car.
I am afraid the fact that I bought an aftermarket remote is biting me in the butt. Lol. It is however the correct FCC Id # and has good reviews. I find it odd that it programs normal but doesn't work once it's out of program mode.
Any ideas out there? I have searched all over nasioc, rs25, google ect. and haven't found the same issue.

I have a 2004 wrx with no factory alarm. I'm trying to program a remote and the horn won't sound when I'm going through the steps. Any thoughts?

1. Disconnect the battery for a minute and re-try
OR
2. Keep cyling key (quickly) until you hear the beep. (you might not be doing it enough times)
OR
3. Make sure your remote is actually a factory remote

Ohh. Thanks for informing me. Well I actually had no idea, since I have seen some cars that have the tailgate open by remote so I thought something wasn't working correctly. But I do have the trunk button even for my hatchback.

02 wrx
Bought car with valet key and no fob
Unplugged box under center console
Bought fob and Subaru cut me a key
Plugged box back in
Reset battery
Alarm won't shut off with 3 cycles
Tried programming after alarm stopped
I get no chirp
Security light blinks as "armed" once alarm stops going off.
Car also came with a blitz turbo timer( which could be interfering some how?)

I need desperately need help. Not sure if I left out any details.

Just found out that if I plug in the box that's under the center console while the car is running the alarm still goes off.

For me the prior owner had cut a wire to get the turbo timer installed and allow him to leave the car running and lock the door with the keyless remote. That happen to be the wire that the ignition uses to talk to the keyless module. I had to reconnect it to program my remotes.
