Are you sure you have an alarm? Do your lights blink when you lock/unlock the doors?

The valet key has nothing to do with the alarm. The only difference between a valet key and a regular key is that it will not open the trunk or glove box.

I have an 02 wrx, when I bought the car a couple years back, the lights blinked when I locked/unlocked, after disconnecting the battery for some work, they no longer flash but the horn honks, everything else works great. I can't find a security light on the instrument panel but I don't really know where to look. I would suspect I don't have a factory alarm except I swear the lights used to blink. Any idea whats going on here? I tried to take it out of valet mode but nothing happens. would be nice to have the lights flash again...

Default Factory Alarm problem

Tried to go to work on a dead battery Monday. It's been doing that a lot lately. I don't use the Subaru that much as I have another vehicle.

Got out the jump box. Started right up. Battery must be on the verge of crapping out?

Now the security light blinks until I start her up. Have tried the valet mode and nothing. The remotes do nothing. Have tried all four of them too. If I use the power door lock switch and lock the car the horn sounds once for lock.

Almost sounds like the receiver end (on the vehicle) is not picking up the remote signals.

Have disconected the battery all night and still nothing.

niice long thread on keyless entry! I have an 05 wagon with the factory alarm. i only received one remote when i bought it (from a used car lot). It does not lock the doors or arm the alarm system. However, it does unlock the car. So in other words, i have to lock the doors from the inside whenever i leave the car. But the remote works only to unlock the doors. Do i need a new battery or a new remote all together?

You might need a door actuator....

Ok, so my teardrop remote has numbers as well as letters. Not just A&B like someone else posted.

I have C,B, and A. As well as a zero. WTF do I do?

I just got a 2007 WRX TR from a dealer. It didn't come with any FOB's and when I asked about them they said i could go aftermarket or buy their 'security system' for $650 (with engine kill and all that). I'm noticing a security beep when I close the door when locked and I can see a light flashing on the dash. Seems to me I already have this system installed and I really just need the key fob's. Can someone here please confirm. Thanks in advance.

Imprezaguy: I'm pretty sure on mine there were two sets of writing on the inside. One had all numbers and the other had numbers and letters.

GripS: I'm not certain, but I'm sure most impreza's (at least hawkeyes) come with a security alarm. If the doors are locked and the car is off it will activate the alarm. I'm guessing you open the driver door to get out, lock all the doors, and when you shut the door the alarm chirp sounds. That is the car activating the alarm.

You should be all set by getting FOB's. I got 2 on ebay for $10

Just thought i'd follow up since this may help others out there to not get scammed like I was. The system that I was "sold" that was already installed on my car is the KARR security system(was wondering what that black box was under the dash). Doing some research my fears were confirmed in that it does little more then the factory system does and apparently it is a very common scam being pulled by dealerships (KARR seems to be in partnership with many dealerships). What a sucker I am and I can't believe I got duped like I did. Probably due to the fact that I had talked the salesman WAY down from the original asking price for the car so they got me in the end through their financing dept. Buyer BEWARE!! I just spent 650 bucks for a security system that does what the factory system does.

Does anyone know how different the fobs are between years? I have a 2006 Impreza without a working fob anymore and know someone selling their fobs for their 2009 Impreza. They look similar except the 2009 has the red button on the underside.

I just bought a 2010 2.5i and it seems like both fobs only work about 2/3 of the time. I spent 5 minutes the other day trying to get the keyless entry to work so the alarm wouldn't sound at 5am but I couldn't make it work. The very next time I pressed the remote it was fine. Both fobs act this way. I tried waiting 30 seconds and tapping the remote on my hand, there seems to be no rhyme or reason for the probs I am having. Going to talk to the dealer if I need to but expect to hear that they can't duplicate the prob.

What do you mean the alarm is going off at 5am? Is it going off on it's own?

What are you trying to do?

I'm tyring to unlock the doors with the fob and nothing happens when I press the button. After 5 minutes of screwing around with it I have to manually unlock the door and open it and that sets off the alarm until I start the engine. I've tried everything I can think of, holding the button, multiple presses, waiting 30 sec, etc. Nothing seems to work. After driving the car, the remote may work 10 times in a row, then nothing. Both fobs act this way.

BTW, I go to work at 5a, hence the frustration. My neighbors are going to want to kill me in short order if this happens too often!

Great thread, unfortunately I'm still having a problem. I have an 06 Impreza with the teardrop remote. I want NO beep, NO lights. I just want to lock my door like a normal car.

I can get it in valet mode (so I don't set off the alarm with key), but I can't turn off the parking lights or chirp.

When I do this step below, nothing ever happens. Thanks for helping me out

For 2006-2008 Models
:

(the 'teardrop' remote)

The horn no longer beeps/chirps when I lock/unlock the car:

**Make sure all the doors, windows, trunk and hood are closed.
**Disarm the alarm.
**Press and hold BOTH buttons on the remote until the horn/chirp sounds.

NOTE: To turn the beep/chirp back off, repeat the steps above.
