Default Nice Race Lastnight

Me and Ben "whtdvl" ran lastnight with his "goodies"installed. His car runs strong as hell now. We went from a 1st gear roll and a 55mph roll. Both times I managed to pull by a decent amount but it was nothing like when we raced earlier in the year when had unichip exhaust and intake. I was feeling unhappy about my car since I was on pumpgas 18-19psi and the tune was all outa whack, but my own car suprised me.

I have a small video check it out...everyone can kick nano's ass for the crappy cameraman work.

Ben your car runs strong as hell....you'll be scaring some people now..

Oh No, the word is out. It wasn't me. Now, you know why Ben's car is fast and furious. I heard the play by play all night from cell phone calls from both Ben and Kris. Sorry, guys I wished I could have been there.

Cool

If you haven't taken a ride in a WRX with a boost controller you should. You can feel the extra power coming through and with the NOS its almost addicting. I have the NOS bug right now so I better stay home before it gets worse. During the race I thought the spread might be a little closer but it wasn't. Ben said that the last time BROKEAWD and him raced it was a total slaughter. Last night was just pretty close in first gear then brokeawd just walked away at every shift. No, kinda jogged instead. But last race was worse before the NOS. I guess BROKEAWD ran away from him like a "burnt cat" A WRX with NOS is pretty damn fast but that Talon is on a higher level that is a excellent goal to shoot for. A little bit more tuning and open exhaust should net better results. I would like to see Winslows car with NOS. Bens car is basically all stock except for intake, boost controller and NOS.

Kapafool I crack up everytime I see one of those screen shots from the F&F. Im sure a bolt on car like winslow would of been a damn good run.

I would like to get around to spraying my car with a small shot mid summer once the new combo gets lined out, its gonna take some tuning. I think on a 50 shot it might be able to put down 460HP at the wheels. Im setting the car up now for 26-28psi and spray, probably have to turn the boost down to 21 when I spray.Just hope the rods dont break before I get there. I did a compression check today and turned out awesome, 160, 160, 152, 160 164 is stock compression. Oh well...car is going down next weekend for work...probably be close to 3 weeks before it see's the road again. Later

You can do it! Rather, you should do it. There's a guy running mid 12's with an MBC at 16psi and a 50 shot.

Some people think it's cheating but I look at it like this. You could get the same power by running insane boost, or shooting the n2o. With the high boost, you're putting all that added stress on the engine all the time. With the n2o, you're only putting stress on the engine when you want the extra power. Plus with the nitrous, the cooler intake temps will help prevent detonation. So I say go for it.

Yup, I say go for it. I've read the same argument in other threads. Go with the electronic setup like the Zex. The NOS needs more attention.

Yeah get it, but get two big chrome bottles that fill up both sides of the trunk. Then you could be Fast and Funky!!!

As for me, NOS would be a little too tempting all the time, so I will stick with things that give me power all the time.

Im only gonna use it for track purposes. I dont like the ZEX kit for one reason. Its a dry system. Dry system uses a vacuum signal from the Fuel Pressure regulator to kick in more fuel. The WET system on the other hand has a separate fuel solenoid. I just dont like relying on a computer to tell the fuel pressure regulator to dump more fuel, I would rather have a seprate solenoid do it for me. Plus there is alot more tuneability with a wet system in my opinion. You can jet rich and play safe so you know where your tuning is at VS a dry its just tell the ZEX box what shot you want and you have NO control over fuel other than the ZEX box sending a signal to the regulator to bump the fuel pressure up. If you had a carbuerated car this would be alot different then you could change the main jets. Just my 2 cents....

The cool thing about the Wet kit is you don't have to worry about maxing out the injectors, only your fuel pump/fuel rails. The dry kit has to have more fuel aded through the injectors, which can cause a problem if you don't know what you're doing. Add that with boost and you can definatley have a tuning issue.

Another problem with it on a boost car is that you can only really tune your car for the N2O. You'll have to run it rich all the time if you want to be able to flip the switch anytime.

My thoughts,

Scott

I'm just too lazy to setup the NOS. ZEX = beginners.

Scott, the good way to set up spray on a boosted car is run about 2-3psi less than what you would run, about 21 for me. Tune for no knock which means your running fairly good...not too lean, Then spray it. Then you have to throw in alot of variables, with a boosted car. 50 Shot will turn into a 75, so I will jet for 40 and hope for the best. Oh well....

Question

wheres the Nitrous injected on the WRX?
would you still get a good boost of power if you used it too cool down the I/C?

That depends on whether you are running a wet or dry system. Dry systems are injected at least six inches from the throttle body. Most people have been putting it on the large inlet hose between the throttle body and I/C. The wet system in injected near the fuel filter.

As a new "Scooby Specialist", I think that this is getting off-topic and needs a new thread.

NOS is cool though, and if I wouldn't go through a bottle a week, I might actually put it in. Plus its one other piece that would have to come out everytime I auto-x'd.
