Default Report: Ford planning employee pricing discount on most '08 and '09 models

Quote:
Ford is reportedly getting ready to reduce its pricing this week, with a knowledgeable source claiming that the Detroit]carmaker will be offering employee pricing discounts as well as cash rebates on most 2008 and 2009 models.

The discounts are designed to clear Ford's excess stock, with the approach of new models on the horizon. Reportedly, the offer will begin on Wednesday and discounts will be available until January 5th although public announcements have not yet been made by Ford.

Earlier this year Ford was offering employee pricing on its F-seriespick up truck',in an effort to move the gas-guzzler after sales plummeted due to the gas crisis. This time around, however, the F-series won't be a part of the year-end clearance sale, reports The Detroit News.

A sales analyst for Ford confirmed that the manufacturer was readying a sales event for the end of the year, similar to other]auto manufactures, but beyond this the analyst wouldn't confirm the nature of the sale or whether employee pricing and cash rebates would be employed by Ford.

Ford's sales for the year are roughly 30% down compared to the same period last year, but unlike Detroit-based rival General Motors, the Blue Oval is planning a new model onslaught to turn around its fortunes, with a desire to make small cars more profitable for the brand. This means that Ford must raise cash for development costs, and the company is planning to raise that cash by cutting almost $9 billion in expenses via restructuring, cutting the salaried payroll by 10%, and reducing executive bonuses.

"American Fiestas will differ slightly from the sedan shown in Beijing, however, featuring bigger 'federalized" bumpers, and a redesigned front fascia with a bigger grille above the bumper and smaller air intake below."
