Default Hankook Ventus evo12 - my friend the idiot

So my buddy owns an 08 impreza outback, he isn't really into subarus or cars in general. But I tried to give him some advice.

Buy winter tires on stock rims, then summer rolls around get summer tires and wheels. Also told him to look into tirerack for prices and reviews. Which he never did

So anyways he took his car to Subaru, cause he lost 1 lug nut, and needed 4 new tires. Told subaru he wanted snow tires, he got Hankook Ventus evo12, apparently the subaru garage he was at told him they were mud and snow rated. He told me to check them out, after he got back I saw the tread design and immediately knew they weren't snow tires. And they don't have a snow symbol on them either, so they aren't recomended for snow either. I've briefly searched the internet and it appears those tires are decent bang/buck, UHP-summer tires.

I told him they are going to suck in the snow, but I don't think he realises how bad it's going to be. (He lives in WV and is bound to see a good bit of snow this year) And how the hell does subaru sell him those tires and tell him they are mud and snow rated
I guess I'll update this thread after he slides the car off a cliff this winter in the snow.

If he did take them back would the subaru garage refund/exchange the tires for real snow tires?
He just got them one like 2 days ago, but has driven say under 500 miles.

i wouldn't leave until they took the damn things back, used or not used- they lied and *possibly* put your friends life in danger

i'd also post which dealer did this in your regional forums...

he already has close to 40k miles on it.
We drive alot for work my bugeye, has 190k

But he got a nail stuck in one of the tires, and it was on the side where it couldn't be plugged. He thought it was just a little low (his light was on) and was trying to make it to the gas station an exit up the interstate from where he was staying. He went up the intrance ramp and the low tire gave out and he spun out I told you he is an idiot. Then he drove almost 50 miles on his spare at 75mph to subaru.
