Default 2009.5 Pontiac G6 facelift revealed

Quote:
General Motors has released some photos of its revised Pontiac G6 sedan, coupe, and convertible models. The popular lineup has received a number of relatively minor styling tweaks intended to keep the strong seller fresh for the next few years.

The update includes a new front fascia and air-intakes, as well as a slightly tweaked rear. The interior appears to be unchanged. GM has not indicated if there will be any mechanical improvements to the car at this juncture.
Marketed as a 2009.5 model, the vehicle will replace the short-lived 2009 model, which has been at dealerships for a few months. The biggest change for 2009 models was the availability of a six-speed automatic and four cylinder combination already seen in the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu.

It reminds me of the facelift that the RSX had right before its death. Make the headlights have sharper angles and boom, done.

And since when was this a popular lineup? HAH!

Why isn't the design team at GM fired yet? They really, really suck. This car looks dated and ugly and isn't even available yet.

What? They did a fantastic job. (Considering management probably gave them a $0.27 budget for the entire refresh project...)

Why didn't this move to the updated platform at the same time as the Malibu, anyway? Different brands on different generations of the same platform FTMFL.

You answered your own question...

Jumping to the newest version of that platform would have cost too much... and don't forget that there will soon be a 3rd version of that platform soon - The Opel/Saturn Insignia is the first car on that newest version of it (and even the Saturn version has been slightly delayed).
Hopefully this very mild restyling will only be around for 2 years max, and then the G6 gets completely redone.

NO, of course not... because GM has soooo much money to waste, they felt the need to give Europe this body style, and the US version it's own unique sheetmetal, even though the 2 cars will be pretty much the same.

Who wants to bet that we'll get the uglier version?

honestly all they need to do is fix the front end, relatively this is a very average looking car (looks a lot like other midsize sedans / coupes).

Pontiac needs to be liquidated. Replace with Holden or better yet, liquidate Pontiac and Saturn and bring over Opel.

The Saturn line is Opel. All of their cars are rebadged, with very few changes, versions of Vauxhals/Opels. Even the Sky is rebadged as an Opel overseas.

They were starting to move towards making Pontiac Holden, but then the bottom dropped out of their business, and they are stuck doing refreshes on mediocre cars. They even brought the Ute over as the G8 truck.

Killing either of these brands would be silly just because of all the brand equity lost. Even if people think the brand is ****e, at least they have heard of it before.

I know saturn is mostly opel. I don't understand why there needs to be any changes though. Every change from opel to saturn seems for the worse. Same with the changes I see when a holden becomes a pontiac. Why do they even bother? Spend money to make the cars softer and uglier and in most cases, less desirable. I don't understand the benefit here.

The reason is that so many americans love their Camrys and other blandmobiles. It's sad but true that design in the US is often dumbed down for the people who like ****ty american styling. You have to remember that these are still Detroit companies in the heartland of America, where sometimes it seemed that the last styling innovation was chrome fins.

All in all I think they have done a decent job with the cars they have brought over. I agree that they should just leave everything well enough alone, but then again I like foreign cars.

Alot of people in the US don't. In some ways I am sure they are apprehensive to admit that it is european or australian. It's the same reason Japanese companies dumb down their products for our consumption. I think overall people are getting more open mind, and the new global direction of car design is reflecting this, with cars like the Nissan Cube that accept their unique designs.

(SUMMARY) Middle America won't buy it.
