Default 2010 Ford Fiesta Saloon Breaks Cover

Quote:
he wheels keep turning at Ford. Despite narrowly missing out to the Insignia in this years European Car of the Year, Fords new-look Fiesta is set to be made into a saloon.

Debuting today at the Guangzhou Auto Show in China, the forthcoming Fiesta saloon will be based closely on the Verve concept and go on sale in 2010.

Currently there are no plans for the new Fiesta to go on sale in UK but Ford haven’t ruled it out. The United States and Canada expected to be the saloons major markets. The cars will be manufactured in Thailand and Mexico with a separate production facility in Beijing providing cars for the growing Chinese market.

Ford has also announced it will invest $3 billion in its Cuautitlan, Mexico facility allowing it to raise capacity to 500,000 units annually whilst also creating another 4,500 jobs.

I like the Hatch better. Something looks really awkward. I think the C-pillar extends waaaay further back than traditional saloons.

Europe: Ford and GM compete for "Car of the Year"

America: Ford and GM sell crap and are about to go bankrupt.

That looks terrible. I suspect it is pretty spacious inside, which is nice on a car this size.

Think about it this way, it is better build up our neighbors than a country across the ocean (China). More jobs down south means a better economy for Mexico and thus a better thing for the US. Possibly less illegals coming over to work here. I would rather have American Jobs (if they are going to leave anyways) go to Mexico and South America. Stronger neighbors is more beneficial to the US in many ways.

They'll be able to buy it before us too.

However, I agree. This looks good in hatch form and I hope that they make a nice wagon. A wagon in this class would knock most of the small car pack out of the water (just look at the mini mini-van Honda Fit)

That is a great design that has NO business being used on a damn sedan body style.

I seriously hope they sell a million of them, but they BETTER be bringing over a hatch version.

Hey, it's Ford...

Guaranteed they'll build a gazillion sedans and a few hundred 3-door hatches, and then in the second year they'll kill the hatch because "we only sold a few hundred..."

There was a 5-door hatch concept as well. That looked pretty good too.

The production version actually looks pretty close to the concept they showed at the same show last year:

That's pretty goddamn ugly.

I like the hatch better. Especially the current MY that we will never get.
