Default GM Files Patents For Tribeca Based Saab

Quote:
rums are alight with chatter about recently filed GM patents showing off images of a Saabified Subaru Tribeca which resembles a four door version of a design mock up unofficially photographed way back in 2005. The interesting part is the supposed Saab 9-6X swipes much of its architecture and styling from the Subaru Tribeca, even though GM split with the Japanese automaker shortly after the original spy photos. These filings are dated as of November 4, 2008, so it's not like they've been floating around in the ether for 3 years.

It's also possible the web is in the process of getting snookered by some photoshopper who thinks he's a funny guy. If real it would be a replacement for the 9-7X which is about to be killed off with a plant closure. Of course, in our opinion Saab needs a replacement SUV like a Prius needs drag slicks.

They had done up a concept a few years ago. But why would they file when they won't be able to get the parts...Suby bail out Saaby?

yeah. I agree. The Tribeca would be more fitting for saab then the crappy trail blazer. I really couldn't imagine why anybody would spend the extra coin for one in their current state.

Notice date patent was issued? Nov 4, 2008. Looks like Tribeca infringes this patent.

Those renderings are circa 06/07 when Subaru was actually going to build a Tribeca version for Saab.

To add, that version of Tribeca has been available for over a year.

The forums of Saab are alive with talks about the lately filed GM patents showing off pictures of a Saabified Subaru Tribeca which looks like a four door variant of a design mock up unofficially photographed in 2005. The curious part is the imaginary Saab 9-6X stole much of its design and styling from the Subaru Tribeca, even though GM separated from the Japanese car manufacturer soon after the original spy photos. These reports are current, dated as of November 4, 2008, so itís not like theyíve been here for a long time. Itís also likely the web is in the course of getting thwarted by some photoshopper who thinks itís funny. If authentic it would be a substitute for the 9-7X which is about to be retired with a close down of a plant.

Yeah probably, though the main reason they want to do this is probably to farm out the production costs.

Very weird, but the images really are on the USPTO web site:

http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-P...RS=PN/D579,822

Click on "Images" You may need a .tiff rendering plugin for your browser in order to see the images.

Mystery not solved. Here are excerpts from Oct 5, 2005 GM press release at http://media.gm.com/servlet/GatewayS...74&docid=19256:
Quote:
DETROIT Ė General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) today announced the sale of its approximate 20 percent equity stake (about 157 million shares) in Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI). The alliance between GM and FHI will end and GM will refocus its efforts and resources in the Asia Pacific regionís high-growth markets and with its other strategic partners.
...
Other joint arrangements with FHI will be dissolved over time. For example, GM and FHIís previously announced Saab crossover vehicle development program will be cancelled.
So, 20 months after GM press release above, GM decided to apply for design patent on vehicle which will never be built. Why?
