Default Chevrolet updates Voltís interior

Quote:
Because its power train is not what GM has expected it to be, the Chevy Volt will not be released to the public quite yet. More testing is in view, especially of its batteries, before they can go into the market. Having an allowance of time prior to releasing the car has its pronounced advantages for the design team, which is at liberty to make the necessary adjustments to the Volt. Bob Boniface and his team, for example, have modified the stock carís center stack with a transformed LCD screen perched up top with a hood that matches the one over the gauge cluster. The new screen has sleeker edges and appears to be more incorporated with the dash. Boniface says that many people thought the previous screen design was changeable, it was not.

There are many minor alterations inside the vehicle particularly at the dash. For example there are now new vents located on both sides of the iPod-like central control console that contains all the Voltís controls. The buttons, which are pill-shaped, have a tactile feel to them and they now include new audible that sound when the buttons are pressed. Although these changes seem to be in the category of ďminorĒ they serve to enhance the overall improvement of the already attractive interior.

Wow ... that's the best they can do for $40k+

Seats look like $20k car
Center stack looks like a Camry ($20k)
Gauges look like

The $40k+ Volt continues to not impress me.

this re-re-redesign is probably going to add to the bottom line. i wouldn't be surprised it this car approaches 50k by the time it gets release.for them to put so much stock in a car that is out of the price range of most who want it.................. i still don't see why anyone would choose this over prius or the upcoming honda... though the gubberment will probably add all kinds of tax credits for this car even though it doesnt deserve it

I like it outside the shifter- that makes it go from overdone but ok to just overdone.

I continue to evaluate this vehicle with its $40K (as high as $48k) pricetag. Toyota and Honda are building hybrids in the $20k range. This car will be evaluated based on how it compares to those vehicles for 1/2 as much money. Honda's new hybrid Insight will come in under $20k!
GM can't even make the interior surpass the Honda/ Toyota's. The door handles and knobs look exactly like the one's on our 2007 Prius.
This thing fails already and Lutz needs to go tomorrow. He is an absolute buffoon that has run GM into the ground.

GM market valuation as of 11/18 close: $1.89 billion
This is the best they can do and it's still another 2 years until production. FAIL!

You guys are insane.

That is a very nice, modern looking interior. Making it look like an iPod or other consumer electronic device was their goal, and they definitely hit it.

:thumbs up:

Where is the Flux Capacitor located? Do you need 1.21 Gigawatts to power it?

People already mentioned it... but it looks like you're driving an iPod. I think it's cool looking and it suits the car, but not for everyone.

The Volt is not comparable to the Insight or Prius. Those cars still use gas on every trip. The Volt will be more upscale and for most practical purposes, a gas-free electric car (40 mile range between plugins).

I think it looks great.

At least they didn't copy the Malibu's interior like they did for the rest of the line up.

Get rid of the horribly ugly steering wheel, ugly shifter and put some better materials on the seats.
Then it will look OK but I will still not buy it

It's a damn CG rendering! How the heck can you even tell what the material on those seats is even like?!?

Oh yea, and that steering wheel mimics Honda's much-admired steering wheel. What's wrong with it?!

Yes, we all understand the differences in the technology and what GM is trying to SELL US (which I remain skeptical of real-world results until it is in the real-world)

Regardless, the Volt still uses GAS. The 40 mile range is ideal conditions, and I will bet my bottom dollar it will be more like 10 miles when it's cold.
This car is a hybrid vehicle and will be compared to all competitors products including the Prius and Insight (which is a mild hybrid).
The $20k+ additional price tag will be the thing everyone will talk about, and therefore I predict MASSIVE FAIL for GM.
The next gen Prius coming next fall will more than likely surpass the 50mpg barrier. It will be freshened up and a 3rd gen hybrid from the current leader in Hybrid technology. Plus, Toyota will have Camry, Highlander, and the new Lexus Prius edition which will actually have LUXURY unlike this Volt.
In addition, there will be the Fusion hybrid and possibly the Focus hybrid for US products. Ford has been doing this for awhile too (and they overcharge)
Who is going to sign up to buy a Volt for $20k more? Seriously? We're talking real world Consumers, not Volt fanboys.

I'm guessing that GM prices this thing over $45k now that they got the gov't to give a $7500 credit on it. They will argue that the car really costs < $40k after the tax credit. That $7500 will be their profit margin on the Volt.

The seats look ugly, the 3 tone color scheme does not look nice here.
The steering wheel, whatever is trying to immitate, looks ugly and too big. The big bump in the middle that houses airbag looks out of place and I hage how all GM steeringwheels are collapsed in the middle.

By rubbing one's butt against the monitor, duh.

I say the seat feels too plasticky, and way too much like the rest of the interior.

Anyone know what they're on about here? So far as we know, the powertrain development has been racing along, and production-intent powertrains are being fitted to production-intent bodies pretty much as we speak...

From concept in 2007 to production vehicle in 2010 is an incredibly compressed development cycle for any vehicle, let alone for one with this unusual of a powertrain.

As for the interior... Whatever. I'd be happier to get it with a Cruze interior if it meant it was going to be $2000 cheaper. They're doing their damndest to turn this into a luxury vehicle to help hide the price of the drivetrain and battery.
