Well, the other day I was at the dealer looking for the "thumb screw" that Winslow broke off the bottom of my car
j/k, that was attached to the drip pan I guess (the big plastic thing under like 3/4 of the engine) Anyway, they had no clue about it, so I asked him if he could get a "hood with the scoop in it" (B4 hood), and he tried to find it in their computer, it didn't come up with anything, I asked if I had the part number (which I do), could they order it, "even if it's like a Canadian only hood?" he said they probably could, just that it would have to be a "call-in" order. So, basically, do you all think that they would/could order that hood for me, or am I better off just going thru Sugar or subaruparts.com? Ben

They probably could get it, but the price would probably be better through subaruparts.

Ben, We could order the parts through Continental and the price would be the same as SubaruParts.

Hmmm...so has anyone ordered stuff from Continental for non-US spec stuff. (bumpers, hoods, scoops, lights, wheels, etc..) Just wondering if they actually CAN get it, and how big a deal they make.
Slightly off topic, but who is the best "bang for buck" automotive painter up here? |

I had them run some JDM parts but their data base didn't find them.

So that would be a NO?!? Did you just have them check on the pricing, or actually try to order it, did they try anything else?
Eby - yeah, we get a discount, it's called the five finger discount, or in my case, it's the twenty finger discount ![]() Yeah, and WTH are you doing on-line in HI?? |

Yes we do get a discount on prices, we have a dealer account set up, so if you need anything let me know and I will go down and get it for you. As for the hood, lets get together with the part number and we can head down there and check it out. They have a new system down there, so it might be a little better for the JDM parts. If the hood is available in Canada that might be a good thing, Canada parts are probably easier to get than JDM parts.
As for paint: TNT - I have heard they are good but slooooooo.... Shades of Competition - They had good prices and the guy seemed pretty knowledgable. I have to do more research on the paint places, as I am having my work done by a friend of Ben's, and I am not sure if he will want more work like spoilers and such. I will let you know after I talk to him though. Kris |

I think to qualify to work as a parts guy at Subaru or Honda you have to be a complete moron with no people skills and patience. I just want to bitch slap that moron at the Honda parts counter with a beard! As for the morons at Subaru, they wouldn't know what a part it unless it was hanging on a wall in front of them with a sign. If you have a part number then try it through Winslow or Kris. Subaruparts.com is pretty good.
Winslow - are you gonna go to any tuner shops there? Don't forget my black hawaiin head and some "Aloha" ice tea at the commissary or Wal-mart. |

Hmm.. I'm pretty sure the part # is for real, at least it registers as a "Hood Cp F" at subaruparts.com. Although no mention of B4 or turbo hood, etc.... I got the number from a thread in the Legacy forum a while back, If you could check it out for me, that'd be great, it would be nice to know if it really is the correct hood. I the hood is only available in Japan and Aus, but if the dealer thinks they'll have problems sourcing a canadian spec hood, well.....
![]() Heres what I had found previously: Quote:

Eric,
Being a little hard on the parts guys aren't you. They are not the fastest, but they always help me out and get me what I need. It always costs too much, but that is not their fault. But I may have just gotten lucky. Later....Kris |

Those parts guys don't have a personality. How hard is it to smile once in a while? I've asked them to look up numerous parts and I feel as if I could do a better job. I get the feeling they think I don't know what I'm looking for. Like I'm asking them to order me a gallon of gas. Just give me five minutes with their computer and I'll hook us all up.

OK, I'll destract him by dragging him outside and having him crawl under my car and tell me where that screw goes, meanwhile you hop on his computer and .....
BTW, while I was there, I noticed that they telnet into the parts "database" (he reconnected under a different user account), if that helps any computer guru out there, now just need to find hole in firewall and the telnet host, and bam!! (if only it were that simple ) |

Hackers meets the Fast and the Furious, I can see the movie potential now!
But I will try and remember to bring that number with me the next time I head over the Continental. I should be heading over there soon to pick up my parts. Kris |

Yeah, we should write a script and go to hollywood. ![]() Seriously, I'd go see that movie, what more could you want then a computer geek hacking a network, getting parts to make a hot car, then he gets the hot girls. ![]() |
