Default Moving to Queen Creek

What's up everybody? I will be moving to Queen Creek the weekend after Thanksgiving and I have a few questions.

1) I have an '02 wagon with an external wastegate vented to atmosphere. Will I have a problem with any emmisions testing? It passed fine here in Colorado with the wastegate on there.

2) What is job market like down there? My wife and I will both be looking for jobs when we get down there. My wife is an Executive Administrative Assistant for a major mortgage company. She doesn't necessarily need or want to stay in the mortgage business. I have a strong mechanical background but I don't want to work at any kind of dealership setting. I have actually been out of any shop for about 2 years, but I have been doing a lot of work out of my garage. I have also been tuning Subaru ECU's with Open Source for the past 6 months and other cars off and on for about 4 years. I would work at UPS if I had to. I'm not gonna be too picky about a job, I just want to work.

3) How is the E85 situation there? Are there a lot of stations that carry it? I have been using it for almost 2 years and I don't want to stop if I don't have to.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

You need to talk to your son about the E85. lol

Seriously though. PM v8eaterwrx (brock) about it as I believe he is the only one, or one of few, in Phx running E85. Plus he lives out there too. Great guy who will help you out.

Yeah, Brocks a good guy. There are a bunch of us out here in Queen Creek at least five I can think of off the top of my head). You can find most of us in the Weekly San Tan Meet thread in SWIC. When you get down here, you've got to come on out.

Where abouts in QC will you be streetwise?

Job market is and has been slow. It all depends on what you're considering as far as wages go for jobs though. i know a couple of contracting agencies for mechanical work in the aviation feild. I work at Honeywell but I dont think I could get you on right now. They are on a freeze last I heard, but there are plenty of other companies still hiring. Even if aviation isn't your background the companies usually dont mind, so long as you have some mechanical skills and can prove to be smarter than the wrench. The pay is the best I've found for not being a college guy myself. I'm in the QC as well, and I would be happy to take you around and show you all of our wonderful scenery (rocks and dirt) when you move down here. The San Tan meet is definitely the place for you though. Shouldnt have a problem with the emissions if youre moving to the Pinal county Queen Creek but that might be changing soon:http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/111586 What parts you moving to?

op's name, fuel choice & future location + v8eaterwrx's real name, fuel choice, & current location = ironic hilarity

youre not my dad

e85 is about 15 miles from us at main and sossaman. there are a few stations in the valley, if you look for my e85 thread here in swic you will find it.

as far as your emissions, i am not sure about what is done when you move from another state. i know that if your car is already registered all you have to do is pass obdII.

we have a pretty good group in the area. a lot of the guys can be found in the san tan meet thread, or better yet at the san tan meet where abouts are you going to be living in queen creek?

Thanks for all the response's. I'm not sure of the area at all but I do know the house is in Johnson Ranch. I'll have to get with Brock, not my son the other one, and talk about E85. Why are there only a few of you guys using it? The stuff is awesome!!!

I will definately hit up the meet when I get down there. I'll have to check the meet thread to see where to go.

Thanks for the emissions article Turd. Is that in effect yet? The article was dated for March.

racingfish - I wanna hear the E85 story.

Interesting. I don't understand how something that has an extremely high resistance to knock and is over 100 octane could damage your car. Like I said I've been using it for years with no problems.

one of my customers friends owns a gas station that has e85... the owner switched his vehicle over... did all the required work to convert (tune/injectors/fp), ran fine but then one day his engine blew the funk up. lets just say hes not using it anymore. and im not insisting that it will blow up an engine (hell regular gas can blow up an engine), im just telling my story that my customer (traded his dynocomped forester for an 08 sti yesterday, and hes like 68 years old) told me about his buddy yesterday. He was saying that it burns so much hotter blah blah blah..

You're right that gas can blow up a motor. If properly tuned E85 is great. We have a tuner here that likes to switch whatever he can over to E85. I can understand people's skepticism about running something that is relatively new (to the U.S.)

If I would have known I would have stirred something up, I would have never said anything about E85.

Let's get back on topic. If we want to debate the pros and cons of E85, lets start a new thread.

Johnson Ranch is out by me. My brother lives in JR with his 04 wrx. There are a few STi's out here that aren't on the forums. Also a few 06-07 wrx's. Plenty of people to wave to.
