tire sizing question

i had no idea where to look for this and that is the reason why i posted this question.

I recently ordered some 9.5*18 wheels well i wanted to know if buying 225.45.18 is the same thing as buying 235.40.18 any help would be appreciated thanks.

No. 225/45-18 is NOT the same thing as 235/40-18. Why would you even think that? They're obviously 2 different sizes.

And 18x9.5 wheels? What offset? You do know they are WAY wider than the stockers, and very wide for a WRX? On a 9.5" wide wheel you need at least a 245 width tire. 265 or 275 would be better. All of which will not fit unless you do A LOT of fender modification, or install some sort of wide body kit or fender flares.

not really safe putting that on a rim that wide .. that is unless you want the euro /vw/audi look they love strechin out tires. ( not alot of places will even consider mounting these and the ones that do will have a helluva time getting the bead to set)

i agree with mav though atleast a 245 is needed i had trouble fitting 245's on 17x8's on my wrx (more negative camber in the rear)

yea man, you need a hell of a tire for a 9.5" rim- unless you want tire stretch and poor performance...i use to run 17x9's with 275's on a old car of mine

235/40R18 looks good on a 8" rim, i run 18x8's and 235/40R18 star specs, ET 48 offset and negative camber is the only reason i don't rub in the rear under full compression...
