You would obviously need the tranny, probably a different rear diff as they are different gear ratios, TCU, floor shifter, shift cable, you would have to switch out the dash harness also. You might need to ad a shift-lock control box on the new harness.(it would probably come with it). But that should be about it.

I might still have an 06 4EAT tranny, rear diff, drive shaft and TCU back in San Diego.

Give P&L a ring, they swapped their STi to an auto.

thanks guys. the reason i want to switch is because its better for drag racing than the stick (and my driving). i'll take consistancy (sp) and high-boost launch over a little more power and fun factor anyday.

The wiring is going to be fun. I dont know if the 5 speed cars came with the TCU wiring that the ecu needs.

There is something like 30 wires or so the TCU and ECU share to operate the shifts, and timing controls during shifts and all that jazz. If you could look at an auto wrx, and see if the plugs for the TCU are there, that would be great.

You would also have to swap over the key interlock and shift lock modules as well. The starter interlock for autos is wired backwards compared to the 5 speed cars (to be able to turn the car on.) Not to mention the fact that the 5 speed cars probably dont have the plugs for the auto in the engine bay, so would might have to source those yourself.

You definately should talk to P&L to see how they did it, and if they have any tips for you.

You don't have to swap the key interlock. It's just a little magnetic solenoid that keeps the key from being taken out while the car is in drive. You can short this wire.

Hehehe, if you lived in IL, I'd totally let you pull all the 4EAT wiring to swap for your 5MT wiring. It would take a while though !!

OP, I didn't get a reply about if my tranny and other bits are still there. As soon as I find out, I'll let you know. I'm still looking for the TCU, I hope I didn't throw it away when I tossed the shifter (but you can always find a shifter on eBay).

I'm going through the shop manuals to see where all the wires run to for the TCU. To see if I can just cut off my harness for the TCU and make a new one for the bulkhead/shifter.

My friend still has my 2006 auto tranny. If you pay for shipping, she's all yours. I'd send it right to a shop to make sure everything is legit with it, or just get it built right off because it's been abused (300whp).

I looked all over for my old TCU, can't find it. I think I tossed it when I moved. I know of another TCU, will ask if it's available. It's from an 02 WRX.

Cool man, I found a TCU from an 02, and my first look over of the wiring, it doesn't seem to be that hard to make a custom harness that goes to the tranny, shifter (or buttons). There are a couple of unknowns there, but if I put more time into it, I am sure I can figure it out.
