Default will 17's muck up the 08 STi's VDC

When I went to pick up my new 08 STi this weekend, I brought along my 17's with me, thinking I'd have them put them on before I left.

They agreed to do so, but about 20 minutes later the head tech came out and said he really didn't want to put them on.

He said that the VDC system monitors the rotation of the wheels, and he was worried that the height difference from stock, and hence the rotational difference, would wreak havoc with the VDC system and it could do some screwy things.

Have any of you heard of this, or had problems running 17's on your 08 STi's.

Thanks

as long as the circumference of the 17's tires are identical to one another you shouldn't have a problem.

I had a client pick up his 09 STi a few weeks ago, and he bought some 17" Enkei's for his winters. He mounted his tires, and drove off the lot on 17's, with no issues, and I'm sure many guys will be using 17" wheels for their track tires, so no worries. It'll only mess up the VDC system if you've got different tire sizes on the car at the same time.

The head tech said not to? WTF?

245/45-17 is almost the same diameter as the the stock 245/40-18 (I think that's the stock 08-09 STI size). A 225/50-17 is about .02" bigger, but still close. As stated above, as long as all 4 are the same, and close to the stock diameter, you should be fine.

The Japanese version of our STi runs 17s I believe. You will be fine as long as all the tires are the same circumference.
