Default NA 2.5 rs turbo

just bought a 1998 2.5 rs sohc with a turbo kit on it off of a subaru gl. kid wrecked it and broke the timing gear. Just wondering if i would be better off pullin the head and changing valves or put 2002 wrx dohc heads on the NA 2.5 block(have exta set of heads in my shop). would i really be gaining anything?

hmm, A 98 with sohc? Ah well, that's besides the point.

You might want to try to find out what the c.c's of the two different heads combustion chambers are. You also want to see if the pistons would hit the heads.

like stated above..found out dates on heads just for clearance then if ok throw them on that bad boy....seems the engine has been running alright with the turbo on there....whats the mileage on the car...and if possible find out from the kid when and what mileage he threw the turbo kit on. But hen again I thought in 98 they where DOHC engines anyways...hmmm worth looking into because you don't want to have bits and parts from year to year unless you know there their on an engine.

Whether or not this car has DOHC or SOHC Ej25 heads on it is a moot point. To change over to the Ej205 DOHC heads you will need a different ECU. Your ECU is not going to work right with the cam gear triggers on the EJ205 heads.

And NO you would not be gaining anything by making the conversion. Both versions of the Ej25 NA heads put on the 2.5RS outflow the Ej205 heads in stock form. EJ205 heads would be going backwards in performance. In the Subaru world DOHC =/= better by defition as it does in some many other sport compact cars. There's a huge design difference between a flat 4 and an inline 4 or 6...
