Default Engine/Exhaust noise?

I have a bone stock 06 WRX and I noticed the other day when I had 5 adults in my car that there was a louder than normal drone noise that sounded like it came from the exhaust/engine. I drove earlier in the day by myself and didn't hear this sound. The sound was noticeable when I was accelerating anywhere from 2000 rpm and 2500 rpm in 4th and 5th gear on the freeway. Also, when i hear the drone noise, it also feels like the engine is struggling.

Is this normal? Does the wrx struggle with 5 passengers?

thanks.

Actually, it's a 2.5, but the idea is the same, you're adding a lot of weight. And how are you fitting 5 adults in your car? I doubt the people in the back seat were very happy about the arrangement.

Sorry missed the 06. My thoughts were the same. Five passengers in a wrx is just alil crazy. I know the stupid question is the question not ask... but come on... comon sense answers this one.

This thread is... Wow.

To the OP, here's a little test that might help you figure out your problem:
Go outside and attach a rope to five anvils. Try pulling it. Then, tie a rope to one anvil and pull. Which one required more work (and thus energy) to pull?

lol i know it's a pretty dumb question but I had four adults in my car before and didn't hear any droning. It just seemed weird that an extra 150 pounds will make the car sound like i have an aftermarket exhaust in 4th and 5th gear.
