Default Bentley considering diesel engine

Quote:
The chairperson of Volkswagen, Martin Winterkorn, has provided the most decisive clue ever that Bentley is thinking about providing an option for diesel engines for some of its models. In a dialogue with Auto Motor und Sport of Germany this week, Winterkorn responded to inquiries about the state of Volkswagen’s upper luxury brands, declaring that, “With Bentley we will react to the changing market conditions.I could well imagine a six-cylinder twin-turbocharged diesel in a Bentley.” The comments of Winterkorn contrast those of Bentley boss, Franz-Josef Paefgen, who lately informed reporters that Bentley was not going to bring in a diesel engine in any of their models. The diesel engine pointed out by Winterkorn is a fresh twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 common-rail version currently going through enhancement by Audi. Alleged to generate in excess of 300 hp and more than 440lb ft of torque, it should be revealed in the next generation A8 at the Frankfurt motor show next year

If they can make the diesel as quiet as the gasoline engine, it'd be great. Lots of low-end torque so it never has to rev which buyers of these cars don't tend to like.

Any engine in the Bentley MUST be obscene. V6 TDI is unacceptable!!!
It must be at LEAST the V10.

Nah, the Touraeg already has that... it needs at least a V12! it would solve the vibration problem too!

Bette yet, what percentage of Bentley buyers are going to opt for the small diesel in order to save money on fuel?

Aren't these $300k cars?!?

Well, if you look at how many celebrities are buying Priuses in the last couple years, I think it's more for the image than anything.

But a Prius IS an economical car. It's light, hybrid, and looks the part.
A Bentley, regardless of what powers it, is still a 4k+ lb car, and can never be considered economical. Toss a TDI 6 in that pig, and you'll be WOT all around town just to get it moving. Even DiCaprio wouldn't be fooled by that!

Methinks Bentley is just trying to get some free ink with this ploy.

Definitely a green move for celebrities.

For all other Bentley owners, TTV12 wins.
