Default I have a chance to pick up STI rims with adapters, is it worth it?

I've always wondered are adapters for the wheels really actually safe? Guy locally has a set of silver BBS with decent tires on them he will sell me for $400 cash with the adapters to the 5x100 for my wrx.....

my main question really is, is are those adapters safe to use?
i think thats a pretty damn good deal isnt it?

thanks for your input, i havent really shopped around for wheels yet on cars, its always been big lifted trucks i've bought wheels/tires for. hah

thanks everyone in advance
kevin

How wide are the adapters and what is the final offset looking like??... this is most important here! I will tell you that I have no problem running spacers(same as adapters for most purposes) on my rides. I know the adapter has built in lugs for pattern conversion! I dont think this is inherently weak, depends on the application... however many people on this board are going to tell you to scrap it for political correctness in the industry. let the naysayers chime aswell.

Are the adapters made by a reliable name or are they $3 specials?

i just dont want the wheels to stick out a like a mexican lowrider on wires. lol

For 400 bucks I'd pick em up and sell em. My main concern would be offset and quality of the adapter. The bolts on those adapters literally hold your life in their "hands".
