Resting your foot on the clutch pedal will NOT move the slave cylinder. If it does you've got other problems.

Open the drivers door, and look down. It's on a black sticker inside the door jamb.

What are the last 6 digits of the VIN?

There is another thread on this forum with a list of VIN's, just check if yours is within the 'range' of bad ones.

Well, it looks like mine blew tonight while coming home on the highway. Started hearing a knocking, which got louder and started to have a lovely smell. Lucky I made it home without getting stranded, but it wasn't pleasant hearing my baby in pain like that.

Checked the dates/VIN : 08/08, 502XXX - within the deadly range. Last time I looked (wasn't too long ago), I had just rolled over 25.5k miles. I'm blessed that the previous owner took care of the car very well and has everything documented, receipts/original barcodes & labels from anything done to the car. Oil is changed roughly every 3500 miles, and was done about 1k ago... so I don't see why warranty would be denied.

Reading ~40 pages from this thread, looks like to make sure to get a long block + extended warranty for sure, and have them triple check the turbo? Did I miss anything else?

Going to talk to the dealership tomorrow and then call up SOA on Monday. Sigh...

I am looking to buy an 09 WRX. I got t-boned in my Mazdaspeed3 on christmas and I have been drooling about these cars ever since. I found an 09 that a local Honda dealer is taking on trade this week with 17XXX miles. There is a Subaru dealer right next to the Honda dealer. Could I take the car to the Scooby dealer and have them look at it? Would they be able to diagnose anything. I do have a picture of the cars VIN and manufacture date. I believe it falls in the danger zone (08/08). Please, any input would be greatly appreciated.

that won't be able to diagnose anything, they should be able to tell you if it already has a new engine though- if it doesn't I'd definitely pass on it as odds are very high it will eventually go

this is if it is indeed a 08/08 build date, if happens to be 10/08 or later your good to go

I assume this is why there are a lot of 09 WRXs for sale in my area but NO 10s or 11s. Thanks for the help.

09's are around 3 years old now. Pretty normal time for alot of people to sell and buy new again.

I just got my 09 STI back from the dealer. I thought it was gonna be the dreaded ringland failure, but it turned out to be a faulty oil pressure control valve which cut flow to the left head and total head failure. SOA actually (suprised face) took care of me.

And... I just got mine back as well. Ended up getting a new long block after some haggling with SoA, but it was because of the bearing.

Just a reminder to keep all of your receipts!

If there is something wrong with the vehicle, then no, the accessport will not fix it.

You have those mods, and no accessport? How is the car tuned?

Opps. I missed that part. Perhaps it's not tuned and that's why it's behaving weird..

I have a question for you guys who had your 2009 motors "POP" with more then 3-Years or 36K on the clock.
What has SOA offered you as compensation beyond the replacement motor?

Mine went at 48K in August of 2011.
Subaru replaced the motor only (no new turbo), but they refuse to extend my extended warranty or offer anything else.
I've been through three levels of "customer service" and the best they can offer is 1YR unlimited mileage or 3YRS 36K whichever comes first.
This coverage is on the ENGINE ONLY, nothing else.
I drive a lot so I'll probably use up the additional 36K before the end of 2012.

When I bought the car in August of 2008 I bought the extended 6YR/60K warranty from Subaru.
I've read people on here who were offered warranty extensions up to 100K on the entire car.
So what am I doing wrong?
They refuse to offer more than the 36K noted above no matter who I talk to.
Seems like the ones that blew earlier got the better deals.
They offer 100K full coverage on the low mileage detonations, but the ones that lasted past 40K are only getting 36K on the motor only.

Default I got screwed...

I just had a warranty claim get denied because of a blow off valve on my 2010 STi with 18,000 miles on it... I wouldnt be that pissed except the whole motor needs to be replaced... Car drank 4 quarts of oil in 2000 miles and they are trying to tell me that because of the blow off valve its getting denied....

Worst car experience I have ever had, I will never buy another Subaru just from the way I was treated by the a$$hole SOA tech from Cherry Hill NJ...

I'm posting some parts for sale... if anyone is looking for a SPT exhaust, check out the private classifieds.

Wow, I guess the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act really doesn't help us at all then.

It works if you sue them. Though I would probably try a different dealership first.
