Hello
I have been using royal purple for a few years in my 04 wrx. I have been changing my own oil since I had the car. I have moved to Richmond Va and Live in an apartment now so I can not change my oil anymore. I have been taking it to a garage where the people are nice. I buy my royal purple and K&N because I want the good stuff. I take it to them to change my oil. Well I am about 1,100 miles in to the oil change and my car seems not to be running as smooth, maybe its just me. I check my oil today and it is kind of dark brown and the outsides are a light brown, I use a white rag. I think what the F*** this is a nice company and they would not keep my oil and use a cheap non synthetic would they , They probably kept it to use in their personal vehicle. I am 95% sure royal purple stays purple. Before I call and yell at them I want to be positive because they are nice, and it has been a year since I changed my own oil. So please can you guys confirm that royal purple does not change color to brown. Please can you guys give me some more input. It seems like there are very few good shops anymore. If anyone knows a few in richmond please let me know. Thanks My poor poisoned wrx.

It only stays purple for a little while - much less than 1k miles of use
Even have it on their website: Does Royal Purple maintain its purple color after it’s put into service? No. The dye that’s used to color the oil dissipates shortly after being put into service. The color will turn brown at some point. If I had to guess why the car isn't running as smoothly, I would say the MAF was fouled by the K&N filter. |

really i swore it still had a purple tone to it. I have changed it for years and thats what keeps coming to mind is that it still has that tone. Thanks for the info and the website. just goes to show you that you need to calm down and think more clearly and not make assumptions. I am still suspicious though.
Thanks |

the k&n is the oil filter not the air filter. I have had the k&n air filter for a while and clean it regularly. Yes I make sure the maf is not coated with the air filter oil.

Also try doing a used oil analysis to see how well that K&N is actually filtering.

Next time you have them do the oil change just check the oil on the dipstick right after you pick it up.
