So my 04 STi has had a cruise control issue for as long as I can remember owning.
It randomly shuts off, it happens if I hit a hard bump, or the car is "jolted". But usually I can kick it back on and the car will continue right along. Other times It just wont stay on, I figured it was just the personality of my car. Although this weekend on a long trip outta town in 6th gear I hit a bump and CC turned off and it wouldn't come back at all, I tried fighting with it for a few hours, and even reset the ECU's learned functions with the Accessport. Still nothing, then when I was in some moderate traffic I was in 5th gear at 3k rpms and I figured i'd try again and the CC worked instantly. Switched back to 6th gear at about 2.3k rpm and it wouldn't function. I brought my vehicle up to speed at about 80mph or 3k rpms and it still wouldn't function. Evertime the car is in 5th the CC works flawlessly, everytime its in 6th gear it wont function at all. I need to check the fuses, and the sensors. I'll do that tomorrow as I just got back from my long trip. Any insight would be valuable and appreciated.

I would think its the kill switch on the clutch or break pedal. trying lifting the clutch pedal with your foot next time it wont work.

Possibly, I'll check that tonight when driving home.
What still confuses me is that CC works perfectly in 5th gear. No issues at all, only in sixth gear am I having a issue. |

Yea playing with the pedal switchs did nothing for 6th gear CC issue.
Any other insight? |

How does one go about replacing said device? |

First, confirm it is bad. Hook up datalogger and monitor its status while you drive.

Nothing wrong with this advice. It might save him money if neutral position switch is actually good. If he can't datalog himself then he can request assistance in his local forum. Waste of time and effort was your post.

I appreciate all advice, even if someone posts "LOLSRT4ISTEH BETTAR" it gives my thread a bump.
Heres a fair question, wheres the switch located, part number? How about replacement cost? If its cheap enough i'll just replace it. I have an accessport but I dont think that can do the datalogging I need done. I dont know many people in my local chapter so its gonna be hard for me to find someone that can manage the datalogging. |
