Default Tire Size recommendations

I'm in the market for a new set of tires. The wheels are SSR Comps, 18x8.5's with a +35 offset. I'm considering either a 235/40/18 or a 255/35/18 and these will be going on my '04 wagon. The car is not daily driven, and NEVER sees an auto-x course or a drag strip. In fact, the car is barely driven. The only other bit of info I may want to throw out to you is that I MIGHT...... MMMIIIGGGHHHTTT, go a little wider in the future with maybe a set of 18x9's or 9.5's. So, I guess the tire choice may reflect the fact that these may see a little wider wheel as well. I know the 255 will work on the 9's and 9.5's no probs, but just wondering if they'll look a little too tall or too beefy on the 8.5's? Is there any downside to running a 255/35 on a 8.5" wheel? I checked Tirerack and it seems like a 255 on a 8.5" wheel is still ok, but is the lowest recommended width for those tires. Haha, the funny thing is that I have a set of 255's on a set of 18x10's right now. Weird running the same tire for a wheel that is 1.5" narrower. let me know what you guys think
