not much power but less lag with means power comes on sooner.

Lets see....

5-7HP

close to 100 degree cooler EGT's

500RPM faster spoolup on your turbo

This is a dyno chart that Vishnu posted:

That line in the middle is with the plugs, up-pipe, and underdrive pulley. The lines at the bottom are stock.

Obviously that would put an up-pipe somewhere in between (basically that line minus the pulley, probably in the +7-10 HP range)

The other benefits are, as was mentioned, the better throttle response/spool up which is easily seen in the graphs, the lower EGTs, and the added security in knowing you're cat can't crumble into your turbo.

think turbo mag did dyno w/ uppipe and their gain was about 5 hp. Downpipe gain was the most at ~10 hp w/ 15 lb-ft of torque.

best thing about the uppipe is that you don't have to worry about the melt down. safe for the engine and safe for the turbo

From our testing on the Dynojet:

Up-pipe on otherwise stock WRX: 7-9 wheel hp
Downpipe with cat on top of Stage Zero : 13-15 wheel hp with Unichip remapping
Downpipe with cat plus Cat-back (turbo-back) on top of Stage Zero: 30-35 wheel hp with Unichip remapping

Cheers,
shiv
