Default Redline changes?

I just finished my ej20k swap in my impreza. I went for a drive and after gassing it hard it started to get fuel cut at 4500 rpm just like it would at redline. Does any one know what this is?

I have a ej20k which has 1 main coil pack and i have not seen any cracks on it at all.

Boost was my first idea i have not installed my gauge yet so i cant say for sure. I hooked everything up as if it was stock so i assumed it was at stock boost. I plan on installing my boost gauge tomorrow and checking what boost lvl im running. I also have my air/fuel gauge (not a wide band though) to install so i can sheck that out

its an 88 ecu

plug gap i did not check but they were pre gaped for a 2002 wrx

CEL?

This thing runs fine some of the time but twice now i has done this fuel cut thing like its hitting the rev limiter at 4500 rpm. When it does happen the car runs normally it still has power right up to 4500 it just wont rev higher then that.

One of my friends thought it might be my knock sensor? Would detination do this?

*Edit* What is stock boost for these things? 1997 TD04 WRX ej20k

Mmmk installed my boost gauge it is running at 12 psi. Gassed it 2nd 3 or 4 times. It did not do the rev limit thing. Then I pushed it a little harder and shifted under power and I saw my boost spike to about 15 psi. Just to verify I tried it again same thing only this time right on my shift it went to limp mode.

So does this mean that jaxx is correct?

ej20G ej20K oem ecus boost cuts in 1.2 bar. it can run continuous 1.1 bar. stock boosts are 0.8 bar at both model.

vss(speed sensor) effects the rev limit if it dont work properly and it cuts the rev at 4500

Doestn the boost depend on the ECU? I have an EJ20G from an STi Wagon and the stock boost is 12.7psi. Simply upgrading the ECU should up boost.

ECU does effect boost. All teh Ej20K's are higher boost than the G's...

So, speed sensor would definitely do this? What if the vss is installed to the USDM dash and not calibrated? Would it stil have this issue?

should not be an issue. i had a EJ20G ECU connected to an 87 and an 88 USDM GL dash. worked just fine.

i guess it is not about the dash, if you just check or replace the vss sensor you can see the error. for all model 5 mt, we have 30 tooth profile speedo gears in the tranny. the only thing is that, you see the speed wrong on your speedometer. if you use a mph gauge cluster with a jdm swap.

Ok so the write up on the swap I used listed a vss pin on my edu but this was not ever connected to the black and white wires for the speed sensor on the jdm trans. Being that I'm still using the usdm 95 guages (which are mechanical) it's not connected. I did how ever connect the vss pin to the wire that was stated in the write up.
