Default Ford creates new position for SVT and TeamRS performance models

Ford named Jost Capito as the head of its Global Performance Vehicles and Motorsport Business Development.

In his new position, Capito Ė who has worked with Porsche and BMW and has also been an integral part of Fordís WRC operations Ė will head up Fordís SVT and European TeamRS operations. That means that Fordís SVT and TeamRS divisions will be closer linked, increasing the possibility of shared products Ė such as the Focus RS that has been off limits to U.S. residents.

Capito will make the move from the UK to Dearborn in preparation to take the position in January 2009. Capito, 50, has been with Ford since 2001.
Ford announced today that it will appoint Jost Capito to the newly-created position of Director, Global Performance Vehicles and Motorsport Business Development. Jost, who will work out of Dearborn, will take up his new position in January 2009.

Capito will be responsible for the global development of Fordís performance vehicles and will oversee the North American SVT and European TeamRS. The SVT (managed by Jamal Hameedi) and Team RS (managed by Dirk Densing) organizations will come together to focus on the development of global Ford performance cars.

Capito, 50-years old, will also be responsible for Fordís global motorsport business strategy and aligning Fordís global motorsport plans and programs.

OK Ford, don't screw this one up.

I can only see good things coming out of this move.

Ford will never dethrone the Mustang as it's top performer in the US. This does sound promising.

I don't think many people want a 500 bhp focus from the factory. However, the ST or the RS badged as an SVT would be perfect. I'd even love me some Fiesta ST180 action. Point is, Ford makes some great hatches that have fun engines...maybe not mustang killers, but I'd rather they be brought over here slightly less potent than not brought at all

I would too.
Probably wouldn't buy one. But would like to see them around and drive one.

No, I believe it's an Australian Ford that combats the Holden Commodore (G8).

SVT - still around? can't tell, lol. Just another part of the US auto industry that dropped the ball.
