2.5i???

Default 98rs block in 07 2.5i

hey, so my engine is toast in my 07 2.5i (long story) and i don't think subaru is gonna cover it. but anyways my buddy has a 2.5rs shortblock out of his 98 rs. and i was wondering if it would be a direct plug and play scenario? we have done a couple swaps before, so we plan to do all of the labor ourselves.
my main question is will a 98 2.5rs short block plug and play into a 07 2.5?
any help will be appreciated

i also doubt it will be an easy direct swap, you may have to tweak a thing or 2, but it should work. I put a 2005 short block into my 2001 rs and there were a few odd changes. well, just one stands out, the PCV valve location.

I'm not sure, but i'll assume your old block was the sohc, similar to the phase 2 ej251(99-01) rs motor among other models. From all the work i've done it would appear to be a simple swap of the block if you retained your current 07's heads (if their any good). There is a slight degree change in the valve slots in the pistons, however nothing to be worried about unless considering major modifications (ex. turbo). I currently have an ej251 running on dohc pistons, cranks, and rods with no issues. Hope this helped.

regards,
pat
