Default Canadian GP and Montreal info

I live in Los Angeles but will be making a trek up north for the Canadian GP in june and I have a couple questions since I have never been to Montreal. How easy is it to use the metro system to get to and from the circuit? What is a reasonable room rate for a GP weekend in a decent to nice hotel. Finally is the smoked meat sandwich at schwartz deli really as good as people say (I have heard that it is the best sandich in the world) ? Thanks for any help educating a ignorant American.

Hey Tifosi77, (guess you're a Scumacher apostle... )

I've been going to the GP for 7 years now... and used to live there.

First, the Metro is THE best way to get to Ile Ste-Helene. Parking is non-existant, it's an island! The metro system is very well developed.

Second, hotels are cheap here compare to LA. I spend half my time in LA, so I know... I stayed at the Queen Elizabeth (one of Montreal's best hotel) early this December and had a room for 220$ CDN (137 USD) a night. So there, anything from 75$ - 150$ for a great spot downtown. If you need suggestion, lemme know. Mind you, they'll probably increase the price too a bit. I'd make a reservation soon.

And yes, Montreal has two national treasures, Schwartz Deli Sandwich and Beautiful Wowen... Might want to include Crescent and Ste-Catherine Street...

Enjoy!

Matt

One suggestion:

Book your hotel room ASAP. Otherwise, you'll have to sleep outside in a tent.

No problem...
you probably already know, but the website is www.grandprix.ca, they recently revamped it. Useful info can be found here:

http://www.grandprix.ca/pages/renseignement/utile.html

I'll be in grandstand 15, I've been there for the past 5 years, best spot ever! Lots of passing, accidents, Alesi even threw his helmet to the crowd one year, after doing donuts...

Enjoy,

Matt

Matt-SWEET seats! I had general admission last year, spent most of the race near the chicane, but I passed by that area, and it was pretty packed! I love hearing the cars slow down and downshift right there, they sound mental!

I was in Grandstand 24 last year and the same this year.

I agree, the Casino hairpin is THE best. I especially like the donuts that Alesi does almost every year after the race.

As far as accomodation is concerned, I stayed at for C$65 per night at the University Campus just off St. Catherines (University de Quebec I think).

A typical no frills bachelor pad, but who goes to Montreal to sleep during Grand Prix?

Cheers,
MB

Tifosi,
yes, your phone will work. Mine works when I'm down there, don't see why your phone would not work here? Who's your carrier?

Good idea for the meet. We should check with the Montreal Subaru club people.

My cell carrier is AT&T, I will be arriving in Montreal late Wednesday evening but I would love to get some people together. Maybe you locals can show us around a little bit.

You might get clobbered with roaming charges but theres no reason why it shouldn't work.
