2010 Spy Shots GT500

In what is the clearest proof yet that paying attention to your rear view mirrors pays dividends, we noticed this virtually uncamouflaged Shelby GT500 sidle up next to us in the left turn lane at a stoplight in the snowy Detroit suburb of Royal Oak. When you live in Detroit and you write about cars, you have a camera in the car at all times, and since the guy was caught in traffic, the photographic onslaught was on.
We did our best to give chase but there was no way to do it safely, with the super-Shelbyfied 'stang taking off on a left turn faster than we could figure out where he took off too. We're imagining he called in the transport truck and disappeared Spy Hunter style. In any case, the new GT500 shares a lot of the styling elements of the current car with double vents on the hood, a huge aggressive upper and lower grille plus the not-so-subtle stripes on the hood.
What's new is the smoothly styled rear spoiler which compliments the new back-end. Check out those stylish new wheels. Pretty cool looking, huh? But what does it sound like? Sounds a lot like the current one, nice throaty exhaust with a tinge of cockle-stirring supercharger whine. We expect the new GT500 to drop at the Detroit Auto Show in January and yes, we'll be there to see it live.

A: I know right where that picture was taken

and B: honestly Ford, that thing is close enough to a current Mustang that you would probably draw less attention to it by not camouflaging it.

Well, there's some decent exterior changes. Most of this month's car mags have a good rundown. One mentioned that the '05 design basically mimicked the '66 and '67 'Stang, and this '10 version is going for the '68 or '69. The nose will be more sharp, less square, and it's got a bigger hood bulge. Improved interior, and they tried to make it look smaller I guess. Wheels got bumped up in diameter all around too, as I recall.

If you get them side by side, sure.

But I guarantee at first glance you would not even look twice at it.

Put a couple side-by-side for me and I'll take you up on that.

But the changes aren't meant to be so drastic as to make it look like something it isn't. Just like any mid-model freshening, really.

Right, that's exactly what I am saying. Putting the camo on there draws more attention to it than leaving it standard.

be interesting to see what it looks like in the flesh without camo. I love the look on the gt500, very aggressive. Was considering one as my next vehicle but I'm not sure I like the new look, a bit too toned down for me.

The nose will be more sharp, less square, and it's got a bigger hood bulge. Improved interior, and they tried to make it look smaller I guess. Wheels got bumped up in diameter all around too, as I recall.
