Default Nissan GT-R FIA GT spec race car spied on track

Quote:
The bottom isn't completely falling out of manufacturer participation in motor sports. There is still some romance left in racing, after all.

Here we have a spy peek at the new Nissan GT-R FIA GT. You can check out the source links below for all the rumor you like, speculation seems to be that this one will come with a V8 with around 600 hp.

What you can see are a new front bumper and skirt made of carbon fiber, a massive rear wing, skirts all around, Plexiglass windows, and lots of air ducting, with large intakes at the side/rear, likely for the rear brakes.
That last item makes seem credible speculation that this GT-R will be a rear-wheel drive. GTR Center, linked below, has two sets of specs they consider likely for this racing model, one for FIA GT1 and another for Le Mans.

For the dedicated amongst you, you may already have a subscription to Auto Sport magazine, from which these leaked photos come from. Or you can just fly to Japan and nab one off the magazine rack at the airport in Tokyo and fly right back. They will likely have all the details in their next issue.

Can someone school me on why they would switch to a V8? Is it going to stay turbo'd, or will it be naturally aspirated?

The GTR is one of the hottest coupes IMO... I drool every time I see one.
Did they ever bring them to the US?

Sooooo... no?

P.S. Also, the Nissan GT-R is not a Skyline.

You are correct sir all GT300 and GT500 and world Super GT cars are RWD because AWD was deemed unfair and a budget buster.

Sorry, but that's not a GT-R.

GT-R's are turbo'd and AWD, period. That's just another corvette/ferrari wanna be.

/I do wonder though, if that thing would roast a regular platform gtr with all the goodies the v8 model has . . . plexiglass and other lightening bits.

So, you wonder... if a 600hp FIA GT spec race car would roast a regular street GT-R? Really?

false....

and my guess is they remove the turbos for one of two reasons
1. being that they probably have restrictions for forced induction as stated before
2. they might be looking for reliability and some teams remove turbos to achieve this

guys, seriously, the GTRs i'm talking about are the usual - R32,33,and 34.

Turbo'ed, AWD. end of story.

I mean, if i took my subie and threw a subaru v8 in it and made it only RWD, that takes away an awful lot of what subaru meant when it made the car.

aw screw it, its still friggin sexxy as hell lookin'

This is the FIA spec racing model of the new R35 GTR, which means it will be very different than the SuperGT-500 car. Just compare a FIA-GT1 or FIA-GT2 car to a SuperGT-500 car, and difference in aero setup is very apparent. However, it makes senses for Nissan to transfer over as much technology from the GT500 car to the new FIA car since the GT500 has been very reliable for them. The V8 engine used in the GT500 car is a VK-series from the Nissan Cima, and that engine has been in usage since either 03 or 04, back when they campaign the Z33.

The FIA GT series dictate that all cars must be RWD, and that's in the rule book, simple as that.

Before SuperGT when it was JGTC, AWD and sedans were not permitted. However, when the series became SuperGT in 2005, it seems like they lifted the no-AWD-rule specifically for Subaru. This is not surprising considering they changed the rule in 2002 specifically for Subaru to allow for them to race a 4dr GT car, since Subaru no longer produced coupe versions of the Impreza.
