Anybody know where the cheapest/best place is to buy the SSR competition wheels? Looking for 18" for a 2002 WRX sedan

Looked on tire rack, but i need a complete wheel/tire package price which they dont have....

any ideas?

Luke, if you read this can you give me a total package deal cost w/ 225/40/18 Kumho's?

Thanks,

Justin

Not a question directed only to you - because I've seen many, many people do it. Why would you spend over $1700 on extremely high quality wheels, and then choose cheap tires to wrap around them?

The Kumho's are "high performance", but fall pretty low on the list in performance and construction quality to it's peers. IMO, the tire is the more important part. Don't make that the place to go cheap (since you are showing a willingness to drop those kind of dollars on the total package).

maybe he likes the way they look.
or maybe drag racing is his main goal, in which case the lightweight properties are paramount.

you do have a point though =)

though the khumos are very capable tires for the money.

Well,

to answer your question, I've heard nothing but good things about the Kumho's until this thread.
THey look pretty meaty, have a decent treadwear, and are relatively cheap.

Keep in mind, I work at a grocery store part time for only $9.50/hour. Money isn't as prevalent as it seems. I saved for a LONG time to get the car and am trying to avoid dipping into my inheritance funds for parts on the car.

Plus, I wanted to see what the kuhmo's cost. I can get my hands on a brand new set of 4 225/40/18's for $300. I can't pass that up for an 18" tire.

and yes, I do like the curves. Are they really that crappy of a tire?

The Kuhmos are decent tires in the dry and rain and do last awhile. If you are doing lots of track stuff or real serious about autox then they you'd probably want something better, otherwise they are fine. cwhalgren, you have to realize most of the people are getting the wheels for the way they look and they mainly drive the car on the street. The wheel they are getting is the most important part of the equation. I don't think someone needs to spend $160-200/tire to do that.
