Default I live in San Francisco but want to drive at PIR!

Hey NWIC members,

I live in SF and want to drive at Portland International Raceway. What is the best track day organization to go with? What should I expect to pay?

Thanks for any tips!

The cascade guys/gals is a great bunch of poeple I highly recommend them. To drive on the track you will do a 2-3 hour long classroom session on a Thursday and then Friday you will be able to drive on the track 4 twenty minute session. It was well worth the small fee of $200 dollars for the amazing day I had out there. I am not sure if the pricing will go up this next lapping season but I can't imagine it going to far above $200. The track is amazing and very technical in some areas. Let know if you have any other question.

I just want variety. PIR is pretty famous and I'd like to add the track sticker to my back window Still, we are pretty freaking blessed with the great tracks in Norcal.

I want to start hitting the other great tracks on the west coast, so i am right there with you. PIR has some pretty fast sections and you can really get the car to dance through them once you learn the track. I always enjoy my time at PIR.

Thunderhill is a great track with huge run offs. It has a real rhythm to it that's hard to beat and the long straights are a lot of fun.

Infineon is hands down the most technical track in the West as far as I'm concerned. Lots of blind corners, off camber and tricky S sections. It was the first track I drove at and I'm glad I did because I'm not afraid of it now. Don't let people scare you, if you drive at 8/10ths the first couple times you'll understand the track and not bend your car on Turn 10.

Laguna is a legend. Play Gran Turismo and you'll get everything you need.

That's right, it's 92db. God forbid you should offend the morons who bought a house near an international race track expecting it to be a quiet country estate.

Most of the time PIR has sound limits too. When we had the Champ/Indy/IRL cars the city waved the ordenance for economic reasons. Lot's of tourist dollers...

I run with the local BMWACA, or Alfa car clubs for track days.

I have heard about this sound limit but it has not been enforced anytime I am at the track. My car is pretty damn loud no cats or resonators in it. I am hopefully switching over to a 3" APS exhaust this summer so I don't have to worry so much about the sound.

I ran a BMW 2002 with a Super Trap back when the car clubs were asked to keep a 92 db limit. I was asked to pull a few disks out as I was 93-94 db if I recall. That was +16 years ago. The newer limits are quite high for a street car.

They typically only enforce sound limits on Monday, Sunday and all other days before 9am.

No track time till Feb at PIR as far as I am aware

I was waiting for you to join in the thread Mick. I can't wait to get back on the track I am certainly hooked now. Any plans for the old wagon over the off season? Do you have plans on racing in a series next year?
