Question Moving to the Boston area...any advise as to where?

Hey guys,
In the next month or so I will be moving to the Boston area. I am taking a job in Concord, MA. I know parking in Boston is definately an issue, so I was thinking somewhere out side of the city, still within a reasonable commute to Concord. Im just looking for a one bedroom or studio apartment. ANY advise would be great! Also, are there any god shops that cary subie stuff? How about autox's? TIA
mike

Mike,
Hmm well you didn't give any range as to what you can afford but i can break it down for you.

If you want to live in Boston or very close proximity to Boston this is the range you are looking at:

Studio $600 - 1100.
1 Bed - $650 - 1300.
2 Bed - $800 up

and so on. Now let me give you a few things to consider. I currently live in Brighton; but work in Concord. @ Trellix. Anyway, it takes me 45 minutes on a good day to get here. Now keep in mind that living in brighton is about 10-15 minutes closer to concord than Boston because of easy access to the Mass. Pike.

Another thing is what you want. If you like quiet peaceful place you mine as well move to Concord. Fairly cheap apartment-wise, and you won't have to deal with traffic. But if you want to live in the Mix of things i would suggest Brighton or Cambridge.

Brighton: College kids, decent rent, happening bar scene and nightlife.

Brookline: More upscale and expensive but 5-10 minutes away from the places to be!

Cambridge: Right off of rt.2 which make for an easy commute to concord. Good scene lots of college students and yuppies ;-)

Watertown: Little more away from the city but can still manage the public trans. to where you need to go. Also easy access to rt.2

Everett/Medford: Decent area, decent rent, public trans. More elder people than young in these towns....IMHO, rather be on the Brighton Cambridge side of things...

I can't stress enough that if you want to save yourself Major aggrivation do not move somewhere that is hard to access rt.2 so again if you want to be near rt2.

Cambridge, WaterTown, Sommerville, Medford.

-Brendan

Hey, I'm *not* a yuppie!

I think Brendan is pretty much correct though. I live in Cambridge at the moment. Rents are going up really rapidly here though, so I highly recommend joining up with a roommate or two to lower the costs.

I live in Everett now, and Brendan is right.
I really like it. I pretty much live in what most think is an old folks home. I have a parking garage under the building, storage room, and a two bedroom apartment w/Eat in Kit.& dishwasher, all for $900 a month (that is a good price around here). The public transportation is great, I get into downtown Boston in 30 min, or you can drive in on a no traffic time in like 15 min. Everything is close, but I think you need to decide if you are driving to work, or taking the train. If you drive, pretty much everywhere around here sucks. I only drive on weekends only. I have drove to work a few times, and it has taken me an hour to go about 10 miles!

I forgot about autocross. It is great. I live smak in the middle, so New Hampshire Internation Speedway is about 1.5 hrs north, and Ayer Ma is about an hour.

Espo,
Well if i worked in Chinatown, or even downtown and wanted to be in a safe town, near the city but not like a city town i would move to south boston. It's a nice area to live, and City point is the best. I would have to also say rent is decent there as well. BTW- if anyone is looking for jobs in this area go to www.Trellix.com and look up the employment page, maybe i can even help someone out.

That's right...you work at Trellix.

We might be using Trellix Web to publish some sites that don't have much content yet. Who knows. You know, for the sites that we need to make a quick buck on.

Any hints as far as using the software?
