Default Pastrana injured? Broken Hip and Ankle

According to AutoFiends, rally driver Travis Pastrana reportedly broke his hip and ankle, sidelining him for this weekend's Race of Champions.

Apparently Travis Pastrana has injured himself sustaining a rumored broken hip and ankleŚwe donĺt have full details on how, although Travis is no stranger to crippling injuries. At 14 years old, he separated his spine from his pelvis and put himself into a coma for two weeks, thereby joining the small handful of people who lived through such damage. Since then, he's had more surgeries than Cheney yet always bounced back.

For this who don't know what the Race of Champions is, or may have it confused with the long dead aquaneon International Race of Champions, here's a primer:

To boil it down to it's gritty essence, the ROC pulls drivers of circuit racing and offroad racing series from around the world, sticks them in twitchy little rockets like the KTM X-Bow or the Abarth 500 and sets them loose to compete against each other head-to-head in the newly minted Wembley Stadium in London. Sounds like a hell of an event to miss when you've already got yourself a seat, right?

Original article on autofiends:

http://www.autofiends.com/index.php/...-of-champions/

Just getting this one through the grapevine. Apparently Travis Pastrana has injured himself sustaining a rumored broken hip and ankle—we don’t have full details on how. As a result he is unable to compete in this weekend’s Race Of Champions for Team USA at Wembley Stadium in London, UK. The Race Of Champions pits the world’s top drivers in identical cars (this year it’s KTM X-Bows) head to head both individually and in teams representing their respective countries. Competitiors for 2008 include champions from Formula One, WRC and Touring Car Racing such as Michael Schumacher, Marcus Gronholm, Sebastian Loeb and Jensen Button. NASCAR star Carl Edwards is Team USA’s other member for ’08. Travis Pastrana has competed for Team USA in ROC several times. Friend of Autofiends, Formula Drift Champ, and Top Gear USA host, Tanner Foust, is rumored as Travis’ replacement if another NASCAR driver doesn’t step up to the plate. We’re hoping there aren’t too many right turns if Tanner doesn’t make it in. And we wish a speedy recovery to Travis Pastrana.

Who is gonna step in for him at the ROC? It's only a week away.

BTW, have you looked at the entry list? Jenson Button is competing for the normal UK team, but there's a UK F1 team of David Coulthard and an unnamed second. Why isn't Button on THAT team?

I think they have a Team UK England, a team UK Scotland, with Coulthard, and a team UK Ireland.

I bet he was injured filming for the upcoming new episodes of Nitro Circus. On the way to Lake Superior ProRally he showed me pics on his laptop from an upcoming episode in which they ......hmmn, don't know if its supposed to be a secret until it airs type of thing. Anyway, it involves a monster truck and high injury risk to whomever was driving.

Also shared the flight out of LSPR w/ him and he was packing a parachute on his way to California to shoot another episode. Surely, that episode is done being filmed.

Said he had a number of episodes to film for MTV before January.

Get well soon Travis.

Autosport Great Britain
Jensen Button

F1 Racing Great Britain
David Coulthard

And you do realize that Ireland isn't part of the UK, right? Only that little northern bit that they want back.

HAha oh okay.
I just assumed that Jens and Priaulx would be representating England, and David and his partner would be for Scotland, like he and Macrae used to.
Oh right, Ireland is not part of the Uk silly mistake. Easy to forget something like that, Northern Ireland has been so peaceful in the last, um, few years I suppose.

This may surprise you, but many NASCAR drivers are actually good.

I don't think switching Jense for DC would be any better, seeing as he doesn't have a ride for 09 right now.

Yup. They participate in a dumb, boring form of motorsport, but many of them have karting and dirt track racing experience. That doesn't mean they can run a road course or rally, but they aren't just dumb hillbillies who turn left all day.

Can we send Johnny O'Connell? He's 'merican and has just a little experience with racing.

Montoya is a fine example. Winner of the Indy 500, Monaco GP, last two Rolex 24 hours at daytona (proving he is good in teams) but he is Colombian.

Scott Speed or even better, Boris Said or Scott Pruet can make it too.
